The Bloomfield--Eastern Greene County Public Library will kick off its Summer Reading program with a visit from Silly Safaris with Jungle John. A new show, the "What's Buggin' Ya, Bug Show" will be presented twice May 31. At the Eastern Branch in Little Cincinnati at 11 a.m., (the program will be presented across the road at the Cincinnati Christian Church) and at the Bloomfield Library Main Branch at 1 p.m. This program kicks off the Summer Reading theme "Catch the Reading Bug." Admission is free.

Walnut Grove Memorial
Walnut Grove Church will host a Memorial Day service at 4 p.m. today as flags and flowers are placed on veteran's graves. On Sunday an all day celebration begins with Sunday school and church from 9 to 11 a.m.; a military service at 11:30 a.m. at the cemetery with Americium Legion Post 196; a pitch-in dinner at noon in the community building; and Memorial Day services in the church at 1:30 p.m. with a special feature honoring all those buried at Walnut Grove since last Memorial Day. The public is invited to all services.
Linton trash pick-up

PACE Board Election
The PACE Board of Directors is accepting nominations for a low-income sector representative. Persons must be 18 years of age and reside in Greene County and cannot be employed by PACE or related to anyone employed by PACE. Deadline for nominations is June 2. Applications available for Miss Greene County contest
The 2008 Miss Greene County queen contest will be June 21 and applications may be picked up at the Extension Office. Applications will need to be turned back in by June 14. The queen will reign over the Greene County 4-H Fair, slated for July 12-19. She will also complete in the Miss Indiana State Fair Pageant in August. The deadline for registration for Vincennes University summer classes is May 28. On-site registration at the Community Learning Center of Greene County is May 27 from 1-6 pm. Kids Count fundraiser
A Kids Count fundraiser -- Hot Wheels 2008 (Truck Touch) -- will be June 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Eastern Greene Middle School lower parking lot. Admission is $2, and children under 1 free. GED testing
GED testing for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is given on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School. Those wishing to take the exam must register in person, one week prior to the exam and present three pieces of ID including one photo ID. The Greene County Humane Society is asking for donations of small, square bales of good grass hay for three nearly-starved horses which were rescued last week. These are very thin, needy horses.
