K of C passing out Tootsie Rolls

Linton Knightof Columbus members will be passing out Tootsie Rolls this weekend at intersections and locations in Linton, Switz City and Linton for donations. All proceeds will got to assist mentally challenged individuals in Greene County.

MSD Shakamak School Board

The Shakamak School Board will meet at 8 p.m. Monday in the school media center. Executive session at 7:30 p.m. in the central office.

Linton-Stockton School Board

The L-S School Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the superintendent's office. Executive session at 6 p.m.

Memorial Service

Marco United Methodist Church will hold a memorial service at noon May 25.

Basket Bingo

The WRV Cheerleader Parent Association will sponsor a basket bingo May 30 at the Lyons Community Building. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., bingo at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $10 for 20 games and additional games may be purchased. For tickets call 847-7576.

Lyons Yard Sale

The town of Lyons will hold its annual town-wide yard sale May 30-31. To be placed on the map call town hall at 659-2521. Maps will be available the days of the sale at Lyons Value Mart and Lyons Petro Plus.

Memory Makers Quilt Guild

The Greene County Memory Makers Quilt Guild will meet at 6 p.m. May 29 in the community room of the Bloomfield Library. Linda Benjamin will be the hostess.

Basket Bingo

A cancer benefit for 11-year old Alicia Bell will be held Monday at the Roy Clark Community Building in Linton. Doors open at 6 p.m., bingo at 6:30 p.m. For early bird tickets call 847-8515 or 847-2333.

Newberry Cemetery Association

The Newberry Cemetery Association will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Newberry Park.

Goodman Family Benefit

A benefit for John and Bonnie Goodman, of Worthington, will be from noon to close Saturday at Blondie's Eagle Inn in Hymera. All money will benefit medical bills incurred by the family. Both were in a serious motorcycle accident. Call (812) 383-7100 for more information.

Red Bonnet Belles

Red Bonnet Belles will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pamida and travel to Chamber's Restaurant in Spencer for dinner at noon.

Pet Show

The Lyons Health and Living Center will host a pet show today. Bring your pet to the facility and share some time with the residents. Larger pets must remain outside.

Linton Band Boosters

Linton-Stockton High School Band and Miner Kadet Boosters will meet at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the high school resource room to discuss Fourth of July bandstand activities.

Blood Drive

A blood drive will be held from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturday at the 4-H fairgrounds. Bring a picture ID.

VBS at Antioch

Antioch Christian Church will host VBS from 6- 8:20 p.m. from June 2-6. Pre-register by calling Robin Baker at 384-3670

Kids Count fundraiser

A Kids Count fundraiser -- Hot Wheels 2008 (Truck Touch) -- will be June 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Eastern Greene Middle School lower parking lot. Admission is $2, and children under 1 free. All proceeds benefit Kids Count. Children can see, touch and explore their favorite vehicles like fire trucks, construction equipment and anything that moves. Union Church gospel sing

Union Church will have its monthly gospel sing Saturday at 7 p.m. The church is located on State Road 43 between Hendricksville and Solsberry. Everyone is welcome.

Greene County Singles

Greene County Singles will hold a dinner and dance on Saturday at the Greene County Extension Building at the 4-H Fairgrounds in Switz City. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and dance from 8-11 p.m. Admission is $5 with a food item, $6 with a 2-liter soda or $7 if you come empty-handed. For more information call 825-4032.

2008 Spring Show

The Shakamak Jr./Sr. High School choral department will hold its 2008 Spring Show at 2:30 p.m. on May 18 in the high school cafeteria. Cost is $3. Senior members will be recognized.

Sausage and gravy breakfast

A sausage and gravy breakfast will be held from 7 a.m. - 9: 30 a.m. Saturday at the Lyons Senior Citizen Center. A yard sale will be held on May 31 at the center.

Woman's Health Fair

A Woman's Health Fair will be at the Shakamak Good Samaritan Center Chapel at 6 p.m. May 22. It is sponsored by the GFWC/IFC Wednesday Research Club and funded with a grant from the General Federation of Women's Clubs. Included will be an introduction to the physical fitness equipment available at the Center, a program on Women and Heart Disease presented by nurse practitioner Shauna Poe from the Clay City Medical Center, an introduction to massage therapy by Wellness First, and Healthy Snacks presented by Jean Borders. Included will be booths featuring Home and Garden items, Creative Memory scrapbooking, and Mary Kay beauty items. There will be refreshments and door prizes. Scholarship fundraiser

NAPA Auto Parts Sullivan store will host its Tool Day Sale from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday. The event also includes a pancake breakfast sponsored by the Sullivan Volunteer and City Fire Department from 7-11 a.m. , a "SWAP MEET" sponsored by the Sullivan County "Shifters" Car Club from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. (bring your parts). The "Shifters" will also sponsor a cruise-in from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. All proceeds go to the Fallen Firefighters Scholarship Fund and the Sullivan Fire Department Scholarship Fund. Newberry to flush hydrants

The town of Newberry will flush water hydrants Saturday and water may become discolored. Town officials are requesting that residents refrain from doing laundry at this time.

Alzheimer's Workshop

To help American adults with memory loss and the people who care for them communicate more effectively with their physicians, the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Indiana is offering a free workshop entitled, "Partnering with Your Doctor," on May 21from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Center for Lifelong Learning at Ivy Tech Community College, 301 N. Morton Street, Bloomington. This workshop is free and open to the public. It is appropriate for caregivers, people with memory loss, and anyone who wants to learn how to get the most out of their doctor visits. Partnering with Your Doctor" will provide information on how to develop and maintain an effective relationship with one's doctor.

2008 Bloomfield School Alumni Reunion

The 41st annual Bloomfield School Alumni Reunion will be on June 14 at the BHS cafeteria. Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. and will be catered buffet style. Come early and meet with classmates at 2:30 p.m. in the junior high. RSVP deadline is May 31. Dinner is $15. For more information contact Jami Corbin at 384-3235.

Vendors wanted

The Linton Farmer's Market is looking for vendors to sell their homegrown produce. The market is open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the northeast corner of Humphreys Park. Contact Fran Abbott at city hall for applications at 847-7754.

Free Christian concerts planned

The Good Twins will be performing free concerts in May to benefit the Vern R. Reed Memorial Chapel Building Fund in association with Open Arms Christian Ministries. They will perform at Princeton Christian Church in Princeton at 6:30 p.m. on May 16; and at the Sullivan First Christian Church in Sullivan at 6:30 p.m. on May 18. 1998 WRV class reunion

Sign up for Linton Community Share at Linton City Hall on Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Lyons Senior Center Monday-Friday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Worthington Senior Center Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. May's regular menu is $16.

Civitan Sample Fair

GED testing

GED testing for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is given on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School. Those wishing to take the exam must register in person, one week prior to the exam and present three pieces of ID including one photo ID. Cost of the exam is $60 which must be paid at time of registration. The next exam will be given May 13 and 14. For more information contact 659-3862

Nehemiah House Fundraiser

A dinner and gospel sing fundraiser benefiting the Nehemiah House is today . Food from 5- 7 p.m. and music from 7 - 9 p.m. The meal is $5 for Italian beef sandwiches, chips, dessert and drink. New Creations will entertain.

LHS Class of 1955, 1956 to gather

The Linton-Stockton High School classes of 1955 and 1956 will have a joint reunion Aug. 8 with a potluck picnic at the home of Shelby Padgett Meurer (Class of 1956). Activities will continue Aug. 9 with a breakfast at Stoll's Country Inn. On Aug. 10 the class members are invited to attend a local church service together. The fun-filled weekend is open to all graduates of the these two classes and anyone else who attended school with them. Greene County Humane Society

The Greene County Humane Society is asking for donations of small, square bales of good grass hay for three nearly-starved horses which were rescued last week. These are very thin, needy horses. LSHS Class of 1988

The Linton-Stockton High School Class of 1988 is currently making preparations for its upcoming 20-year class reunion. Invitations will be mailed sometime in April, however help is still needed to update the classmate contact list. For this reunion, it will include those that were once classmates at some point throughout the class' educational career at Linton. Worthington Playground Fund

The staff members and students at White River Valley-Worthington Elementary School are raising funds to replace playground equipment in memory of former principal the late Larry Catron. Saron Church of Christ

Saron Church of Christ and St. Peter Catholic Church have combined their food pantries. The Linton Community Food Pantry is located at 440 E. St. NE (the former St. Peter Food Pantry). The hours are 1-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. - noon on Saturdays. The St. Peter Thrift Shop will remain open at that location at the same hours.

Greene County Soil and Water Conservation

Lyons Senior Citizens center

The Lyons Senior Citizens Center, 150 N. Jefferson St., now has wooden toy crafts for sale. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Lyons First Christian Church youth group meets at 6 p.m. on Mondays at the church's East Broad Street location.

Solsberry Church coat giveaway

The Solsberry Christian Church VBS students raised money to give fans away during the warm weather and are now in the process of a cold weather coat giveaway. Dugger Legion to meet

The Rexford Ballard American Legion Post 224 will meet the first and third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

Jasonville Senior center update

The Jasonville Senior Citizen Center, located at 145 S. Lawton, has opened a country store and gift shop. It will be open from 9 a.m.-noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All proceeds will benefit the senior center. For more information, call the center at 665-9882.

Wig bank

The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield. Narcotics Anonymous

Narcotics Anonymous will meet Saturdays at 7 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church on State Road 54 East. There will be open discussion and all are welcome.

Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

Bloomfield Food pantry

The Refuge Assembly of God food pantry will be open every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. to assist those living in Bloomfield. To donate, please contact Trina at 384-8093 during the pantry's open hours.
