Man buys 'clean' urine for probation drug screen test

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

Amid the regular criminal filings that appear on the books in the Greene County Clerk's Office, an unusual charge appeared on Wednesday morning.

It was a class B misdemeanor for possession of a device or substance used to interfere with a drug or alcohol screening test.

This preliminary charge was one of two counts filed against Jeremy B. Swango who is on probation. The other charge was for possession of paraphernalia, a class A misdemeanor.

The probable cause affidavit, written by Julie Martin, an investigator for the Greene County Prosecutor's Office, details incidents on May 7 when Swango reported to the Greene County Probation Department for an appointment. He met with Probation Officer Lance Seever who requested a urine screen from Swango.

According to the affidavit, when Seever walked out of his office for this screen, Swango was slow to follow. When Swango was subsequently searched, a toothpick was found in his underwear but no urine.

At that time, Swango told the officer that he would "test dirty" for marijuana and admitted he had items of paraphernalia at his home.

Two probation officers went to the residence, retrieved those items but found no other illegal substances.

The affidavit states that when they returned to Seever's office, a condom full of urine was located behind a picture on his bookcase and Swango was asked to return to the office.

After being advised of his rights and signing a waiver form, officers learned a pre-packaged condom of "clean" urine had been purchased from a friend for $10. The urine had been hidden on his person and the toothpick was to be used to puncture the condom.

I can remember smoking pot in HS.... a lot of pot in fact... not that it was the smartest thing to do, but I was still smart enough to not move on to other drugs. Smoking marijuana doesn't necessarily lead to experimentation with other drugs. I never touched anything else. I sit here as an adult now and regret some of the poor choices I made as a teenager, but still stand proud that I never dabbled into the other stuff!

If you say so. I know that a bottle of whiskey can't give you STDs and pack a glock. Nit pickin'. You all are so good at that.

blackbrrd

Alcohol does not lead to death and STDs, stupid or irresponsible people do. Lots of people drink and don't kill people or end up with an STD...

To the one who suggests cameras in every home, you've got to be kidding! Why not just give up all our freedoms as Americans? I enjoy the freedoms we have here, the freedom that a lot of men and women have died to protect. Maybe you should go to another country where they watch your every move and by the way, I am not a criminal but I obey the laws of our land! I loved the comment, "I've got a goldmine in my loins." Hilarious!! Thanks for the laugh!

You are exactly right! This has been my take on the "gateway drug" theory for quite some time now!

Congrats GCDW on most of your internet readers being pot smoking hippies,..hahaha

YES. Alcohol is what leads to death and STDs. That's the real problem. But once again, another way of controlling the population.

gravytrain:

I think he was being sarcastic about the microchip thing. As we all know though, the whole "number of the beast" thing (616, not the ill translated 666) is just a code for Nero Caesar. I think he's been dead for a while: nothing to see here, please move on.

I think that marijuana is a "gateway" drug not because of the drug itself, but because it is illegal. To get it, you have to be around "shady" drug dealers who are committing crimes and possibly doing/selling harder drugs.

During the prohibition, alcohol was a gateway drug to lots of crime. Nobody's screaming that we make it illegal again (well, nobody that cares about rights that is).

The only reason that marijuana isn't legal is b/c if they were to put their grade on the market, there wouldn't be a way for them to regulate personal cultivation and they wouldn't be able to tax it.There has been NO recorded deaths by marijuana use alone. Other drugs, they allow a certain amount to make it into the country to perpetuate relations with other countries. It serves as a way to control the population, something they use for their OWN currency, and something they can say that they are spending our tax dollars on to control import in an act of "protecting" us. Most of these things weren't illegal back in the day. There are many places around the united states that manufactured hemp for all kinds of materials for building materials, clothes, etc.. If you were to do some research on drug enforcement and presidency, you would see that there were a few while in office that provided planes for transport. Then you would hear of cartells being snuffed off once they lead them to their supply so that one could gain control. "Cutting out the middle man". Money makes the world go around and to sit around and be naive about drugs, legalization, and our government is a short cut to thinking. They tell you only what they want you to know and instill fear in the american public.

Claiming marijauna itself leads to the use of stronger drugs is as absurd as claiming beer leads to heroine. I simply cannot believe that in this day and age some people still allow themselves to be brainwashed with such propagandic bilge.

Microchips?Have you read the Bible "america"?,but, that's another story.

If I'm doing nothing wrong, there is no need for cameras in my home. It's criminals who have their rights taken away.

Marijuana leads to harder drugs and it's those drugs that kill.Put your mind and body to better use.Teach kids the wrong in doing drugs, not how to get away with it.

o yeah....I heard smoking reefer will make you grow breasts if you are a man. That horrible stuff is really scary and will eat my children.

I am so glad that my tax money is being spent so well to "protect us" from this evil plague that is destroying the world. Not only is weed extremely dangerous (it might pose more danger than a golf cart even) it will get you sent straight to heck.

To solve the problem of all the reefer madness going on in this county we should place the entire population on probation. If we could have random drug testing on all citizens then we could save all of our children from the danger of this horrible and life destroying substance. Cameras should be placed in all homes to monitor if any citizen is smoking marijuana.

Anybody who would disagree with that has got to be a criminal because if you have nothing to hide why would you not want a government camera in your home. It could save alot of elderly folks lives and prevent a lot of children and women from being abused.

Microchips can also be implanted in citizens arms and transmit information about drug use to the police computers. This would also help to eliminate the growing plague of "reefer madness"

Jeremy I love ya to death but you need to be smarter than that. You should have atleast quit smoking long enough to pass a drug test. You know how these probation officers are. And Falling Empire is right. People who kill don't get it as bad as someone who smokes a little grass. It hasn't ever killed anyone. Why not make it legal?

-- Posted by AMyers8289 on Thu, May 15, 2008, at 9:22 AM

Millions of dollars of hard payed tax money goes toward controlling marijuana. We live in a country where your awarded for killing other humans but go to jail if you smoke some grass.

-- Posted by Falling Empire on Thu, May 15, 2008, at 8:59 AM

Ewww on his bookcase. Wasn't there a trash can? And you believe he bought it? Something doesn't sound right here.

-- Posted by dorkey1 on Thu, May 15, 2008, at 8:37 AM

Jeremy, Jeremy, Jeremy. Is it really that important to do drugs? You guys have to be smart to find ways to beat the system. Use it for something better than drugs.

-- Posted by Curious 68 on Thu, May 15, 2008, at 6:47 AM

They need to watch people more closely during these urine tests. I have heard of people doing stuff like this and getting away with it . Their are alot of people still doing drugs and getting away with it because they have learned to beat the system. They really need to search them better if they do at all.

Should've sold the urine on E-Bay. I'm sure that the contributor would've gotten much more for it than 10$.

I want to say good job to Lance Seever and Julie Johnson, you guys rock, keep up the good work.
