Lady Cards win on senior night

The Bloomfield girls tennis team finished the regular season with a 3-2 win over Barr-Reeve Monday on the Cardinal courts.

The Lady Cards singles players were on top of their games and swept singles permitting only four total games.

Bailey Maryfield defeated Kacie James 6-0, 6-1 at the top singles spot. The No. 2 position was won by the Lady Cardinal Nikkole Thombleson 6-2, 6-0. Sarah Miller continued the sweep for the Cards by pounding Devan Bullock 6-0, 6-1.

The Cardinal doubles teams couldn't maintain the intensity they displayed this past weekend in the conference tournament finishing one and two. Both teams were beaten by similar scores.

The No. 1 team of Abbie Humerickhouse and Christina Neill was downed 7-5, 6-3 by Kylie Sluder and Kristen Knepp. At No. 2 doubles Lindley Gremore and Rachel Toon were beaten 7-6(4), 6-2.

I was hoping all the positives I saw this past weekend would carry the doubles teams through the sectionals. That just didn't happen today. We have to get back to that same level of play if we expect to do anything in the sectional.

Bloomfield's next match is Friday at the Loogootee sectional where they will face the winner of Thursday's WRV-Barr-Reeve match. The complete Loogootee Sectional parings are:
