Linton woman charged with multiple felonies

Monday, May 12, 2008

Six preliminary felony charges, including two counts of forgery and four counts of theft, were filed Monday in Greene Superior Court against a Linton woman.

The charges against Teresa Michelle Ellis, a former employee of Four Rivers Resource Services (FRRS), stem from the theft of four checks that were stolen during the time Ellis was in charge of the accounts receivable at the agency.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed in Greene Superior Court, Det. George Dallaire of the Greene County Sheriff's Department was assigned on April 1 to investigate a complaint made by FRRS.

Dallaire wrote in the affidavit that FRRS became aware of the thefts after learning that Ellis had cashed a check in November for $2,390.44. The FRRS check was made payable to FSSA Refunds. The check was cashed at the Linton Wal-Mart and the store supplied a copy of a security video showing Ellis cashing the check. The check had been endorsed, "FSSA Claim Management, FAAS, TM Ellis."

FRRS personnel said Ellis had admitted to them that she had stolen the check and cashed it and she made full restitution to FRRS.

After this incident, FRRS conducted an internal investigation and audit and they discovered three additional checks had been stolen.

The three checks had been made payable to a woman who never received the checks in the amounts of $647.00, $654.00 and $486.40. The checks were dated Nov. 3, 2006; May 31, 2007; and Oct. 3, 2007. All were deposited into Ellis's account at the Crane Federal Credit Union.

In making their complaint, FRRS also said over $700 in cash appeared to have been stolen from FRRS.

Dallaire wrote in the affidavit that in an interview with Ellis, she admitted cashing the check at Wal-Mart. In regards to the other three checks, she said the first one was deposited into her Crane Credit Union Account by accident and when she did not get caught doing this, she deposited the other checks.

The woman who was listed as the payee on these three checks was also interviewed by Dallaire. She stated that she did not know Ellis and did not give her permission to take these checks or sign her name. She said the checks were refunds forover-payments she had made to FRRS for her son who receives services from FRRS.

The two forgery charges are class C felonies and the four theft charges are class D felony charges.

A warrant for Ellis' arrest was also requested on Monday.

Hmm. You don't really get away with something like this I don't think. What happened to the days when all you had to do was plan a heist on a day that the town is having a bicycle race? Where's the creativity? And who thinks that noone will notice?! These stories revealing one's ignorance cut through my being like shards of glass through my soul. Thankfully, future literate bandits will learn from this story and devise a more intriguing headline for our entertainment and commenting pleasure.

Thank heavens what people write or say about us doesn't affect God's ability to forgive. Remember the thief on the cross or the woman at the well? "Judge not, lest you be judged"...Sometimes the harshest critics are the ones that sit on the front row of the church. It never ceases to amaze me.......

blackbrrd...yes, I agree....it is apparrent that most thievery is conducted by those who don't really think things through. Who are these people...and why do they even try! I am ashamed that they are even from Greene County. Do people have no conscience?

Surely Miss Ellis was not destitute and going hungry...

Where has everyone's personal integrity gone? Sad..really sad!

Apparently some individuals have skipped over the part in the bible that says, "Thou shalt not steal!"

If this is what she was caught doing...what has she gotten away with?

Okay. this article isn't about me "Mr. Bojangles". Which is a very spooky name on SO many levels, let me just get that out there. I do NOT require a sermon. There IS a difference between observation and judgement. You being so quick to judge and ASSUME my character, it should've been quite obvious. Need not worry. God knows what is in my heart and my motivation. I am prepared for my judgement and I do NOT fear it. Leave this up to me. Don't you worry about a thing. My Dad is a Preacher and I can get my daily biblicals from him. From my experience, there are those that are spiritual and those that are religious. There are also those that show up in their best "digs" and keep up with the Jones' while judging their very own brothers and sisters while at services on the sabbath. I can only imagine which denomination and routine you occupy. She is a thief. Simple as that. People make mistakes. Most learn from them. It's alright to be a vessel of the Lord, but let's not forget that pride is one of the 7 sins. No reason to alienate or condemn someone for typing their comments about a WORLDY story in the newspaper. It is very clear to me that no two people share the very same opinion. It is one thing to spread the word of God, it is another to look down on all of God's children because of YOUR perception of them. Peace, Love, and Peanuts.

Do not judge, lest ye be judged!

What in the world is spooky about Mr. Bojangles who was a famous tap and soft shoe dancer?

Sounds like a personal problem. I need not explain Indianachas.

I think it so sad that some people have no consideration for the others. What if that money she stole was the only money that lady had left for the month but she trusted these people to take care of her son!!!! God will get us all for our sins-my load is heavy enough but dilerberatly hurting people like this is terrible!!!!

If you know anything about people who steal money you know these things.

1. The first time they take it they see if they are caught before they do it again.

2. They then take more but keep track of it so when they get caught they say they intended to pay it back.

3. They never take full responsibility for their actions.

4. They usually have some awakening in their life be it religious or otherwise after they are caught.

5. They never mean to do it and have a handfull of excuses.

6. They often blame others who could not have done it.

7. They say they will never do it again and beg to make restitution and want the law to forget the whole thing.

8. If their sentence is small or no sentence at all. They do it again.

I'm sorry but this is not about forgiving someone like Jesus did. It's about sometimes you have to pay the piper and own up to your own actions.

There is a big difference between judging a person and discerning a situation as wrong. We know stealing is wrong, we are not to take something that doesn't belong to us. That is truth and a fact, not a judgment against someone, that is discerning the situation which God expects us to be able to do correctly, whatever the situation maybe. We are not to judge someone elses wrongs if we ourselves do the same things, that is hypocritical. In this case with Teresa, it is not my place to say what her punishment will be, that is what we have our laws for and the judge will set that up. I can however clearly discern that her stealing what was not hers, is wrong and she will have to pay the conscequences for her actions, she will have to accept responsibility for her wrong and make amends, no excuses. I hope she will do just that and never steal again.

I wonder if she will still be able to participate in the after school activites with children that she does now?

Is this article about one person? I am confused because I heard that there was a Teresa Michelle and a Teresa Marie that both lived around here and that the first part of the article was about one and the rest of the article about another. Surley the reporter is talking only about one person.

I heared the exact same thing as you, twofour. I heared there were two people with the same name and that everyone was getting the two mixed up. Well, I do know that T.M.Ellis is from Lyons, not Linton, so you figure it out?

-- Posted by full of comments on Mon, May 19, 2008, at 8:41 PM

Well the article says a Linton woman was arrested. The police log said a Lyons woman was arrested. Do you know which one is which?

You don't have to answer that on line. I know which one showed up at the hearing yesterday and all charges were against her.

-- Posted by twofour on Tue, May 20, 2008, at 12:27 PM

I know that the Teresa Michelle Ellis is from Lyons, not Linton as the paper reported. She worked in Linton.

I also know that she coaches softball in Lyons. If my girl played there, she wouldn't be her coach!

-- Posted by 1mom2kids on Wed, May 21, 2008, at 3:54 PM

I know the Michelle Ellis that coaches at Lyons. My daughter has played for her for the past 2 years and I can tell you that she is not the monster that everyone is making her out to be she loves every one of the girls on the team. You can't really judge a person for what they have done we don't have that power only God does. If we Judge others we are no better than the person that did the crime. We need to take a look at ourselves and worry about us and if we are ready to meet our maker than what everyone else is doing. Jesus said in the Bible those among you with out sin cast the first stone. Well is there anyone here thats gonna throw that stone? I'm sure not.
