The Linton-Stockton girls and Clay City boys followed up their Tri-River Conference track and field team championships from last week, with a repeat performance Friday night in the Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference meet at Roy Williams Field.

The host Lady Miners outscored White River Valley and Eastern Greene with 147 points to 100 to claim their eleventh straight SWIAC title. Clay City finished in third with 99, followed by Shakamak with 74, North Daviess 54 and Bloomfield tallied 32 points.

The Eels once again slipped by the Lakers in the boys race by a narrow six-point margin, 138-132. North Daviess followed in third place with 114, while Eastern Greene totaled 86, Linton-Stockton 83, WRV posted 34 points for sixth place and Bloomfield scored 26 points.

The Lady Miners demonstrated the true definition of a total team effort to claim the team title to remain undefeated on their home turf. Only one blue ribbon was brought home for the victors. Vincennes University bound Aubrey Sears won the shot put despite have a broken bone in her foot.

"I am very proud and honored to be able to coach this group of seniors," Linton-Stockton first year girls coach Britney Lynn said. "They always want to do what is best for the team. They know what they have to do to get the extra team points."

Lynn had praise her Eastern Greene and White River Valley, who ended up in a tie for second place.

"I knew coming into tonight that we were going to have to be at our absolute best to be able to beat both WRV and Eastern Greene. Those are two excellent Greene County teams right now. We knew that we were just going to have to be able to plus up on points anywhere possible."

Eastern Greene senior Lindsey Stevens did all she could to help her team to a second-place finish by taking home top honors in three events. With the 30 points she scored for the Lady Thunderbirds, she also took home high point honors. Stevens defeated Lady Miners sophomore Kelsey Andis in both hurdle events, coasting in the 300 meters, and defeated teammate Alyssa Nicholson in the long jump.

Jennifer Hughes and Kylee Eyerman lead the Lady Wolverines with three blue ribbons. Hughes easily outdistanced her competition in the 1,600 and 3,200 while Eyerman won the 400, was runner-up in the 200, third in the 100 and fifth in the long jump.

Kayla Held set a new SWIAC standard in the pole vault as she soared to the top by clearing eight feet, six inches, defeating Linton-Stockton senior Ashlea Beard by a foot.

Junior Kelsey Anderson picked up a red ribbon for the Lady Wolverines in the discus.

Beard also was runner-up in the high jump and third in the long jump.

Abby Sweet (1,600), Holli Moore (300 hurdles) and Mindy Kurtz (3,200) were Shakamak's top performers with each earning a third-place showing. Sweet also placed seventh in the 800.

Sam Ellis had a pair of fourth-place ribbons in both sprints, while Chelsea Hudson claimed fourth in the high jump for the Lady Lakers.

Bri Wilson was the high-point scorer for the Lady Cardinals, as the junior placed third in the discus and was fourth in the shot put.

Paige Warren also picked up some points for the Cardinals with a pair of fifth place efforts 1,600 and 3,200.

In the boys event, Anthony Witt of Shakamak set two new meet records as he claimed first both the 1,600 and 3,200. The 1,600 was arguably the most exciting race of the meet as he had to out sprint Michael Callison of North Daviess in the final 100 meters to claim a record time of 4:21.54.

Witt won the 3,200 in a SWIAC best time of 9:29.36. Both records were previously owned by Witt.

Callison went on to defeat Witt's teammate Drew Gambill in the 800 to keep the sophomore from having a repeat performance from the TRC meet. Gambill did however win the 400.

James Marlow and T.J. Hill was responsible for the Lakers other two first place showings. Marlow won the long jump, while Hill finished first in the shot put. Hill was also second in the discus behind Stefan Sparks of Linton-Stockton.

Jaron Powell, who finished second to Gambill in the 400, ran first in the 200 and was fifth in the 100 for the Miners.

The Linton-Stockton relay team also claimed the top spot in the 1,600 relay.

Brent Fielder was Eastern Greene's top place showing, with a second place effort behind Witt in the 3,200 and also finished fifth in the 1,600. Teammate Tyler Ogden finished just ahead of Fielder in the 1,600 for fourth place.

Wesley Tieman placed third in the long jump for the T-Birds, while Ben Arthur and Miguel Olvera placed fourth and fifth respectively in the 110 high hurdles. Olvera was also fifth in the 300 low hurdles as well.

Drew Townsend was the top performer for the Wolverines with third place efforts in both the 100 and 400 and also finished sixth in the 200.

Matthew Hanauer, Rory Jones and Donovan Hodge led the Cardinals. Hanauer (3,200) and Jones (discus) each placed fifth, while Hodge earned a sixth-place finish in the long jump.

No the whole story on the times is this.

It was a Very close race for 3rd. At the finish Moore out leaned Crabtree for 3rd but was awarded 4th. The way the times were originally listed was what the runners were told at the end of the race.

Moore went to her coach and asked him to look at the tape of the finish. But her coach thought she had finished 4th. Until Crabtree told Moore before the 300 Hurdles "you know you beat me in the 100".

Human error is what it was. Trying to sort out places in that close of a race is difficult at best. and the timer do a great job. A FAT timing system is ultimately needed for a meet of this size. But at $7500 for the lowest cost model I can understand why our locals schools dont have one.

Great meet though. It was very cool to watch Brown from North Davies attempt 14' 1" in pole vault. Witt for Shakamak lapping the entire field in the 3200. Stevens in girls 100H look like she was warming up and just flying. And all the relays were exciting.

Again great job to the athletes!!

To answer the question about times. Unless the track has the automatic timers(Accutrack??) times are hand held... meaning human error. Timers are told to make sure the places are right. My guess is Moore was beaten by Crabtree, but a slow trigger finger would account for the difference in times.

Great job to all athletes! I hope everyone was able to see Anthony break his own record for the 3200. Unbelieivable stamina~ I don't think he broke his stride a bit and still had energy to sprint to the end.

Congratulations to all the Seniors from all schools and best of luck next year in College or where ever your paths may lead.
