Greene County Alliance for Networking and Growth (GCA) will meet Thursday at noon at El Ranchito restaurant in Bloomfield. Kerry Conway from the Greene County Foundation will be the guest speaker. A meeting about Kid's Fair will precede the meeting at 11 a.m.

Woman's Health Fair

A Woman's Health Fair will be at the Shakamak Good Samaritan Center Chapel on May 22 at 6 p.m. It is sponsored by the GFWC/IFC Wednesday Research Club and funded with a grant from the General Federation of Women's Clubs. Included will be an introduction to the physical fitness equipment available at the Center, a program on Women and Heart Disease presented by nurse practitioner Shauna Poe from the Clay City Medical Center, an introduction to massage therapy by Wellness First, and Healthy Snacks presented by Jean Borders. Included will be booths featuring Home and Garden items, Creative Memory scrapbooking, and Mary Kay beauty items. There will be refreshments and door prizes. Scholarship fundraiser

NAPA Auto Parts Sullivan store will host its Tool Day Sale from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. on May 17. The event also includes a pancake breakfast sponsored by the Sullivan Volunteer and City Fire Department from 7-11 a.m. , a "SWAP MEET" sponsored by the Sullivan County "Shifters" Car Club from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. (bring your parts). The "Shifters" will also sponsor a cruise-in from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. All proceeds go to the Fallen Firefighters Scholarship Fund and the Sullivan Fire Department Scholarship Fund. Book sale/extended hours

The Friends of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Library will host their next book sale May 15 in the library's lower-level lobby, 125 S. Franklin Street, from 10 am until p.m. In addition to a nice selection of fiction and non-fiction for adults, there will be a larger than usual selection of children's books, both fiction and non-fiction. Most paperbacks are 25 cents, hardbacks 50 cents and some premium and vintage books priced slightly higher.

Relay for Life fundraiser

Grocery Days will be from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. today at Angell's Food Center in Linton. Look for local celebrities working as grocery baggers and the traditional rib eye sandwich sale. The event benefits Greene County Relay for Life which is scheduled for May 16-17 at the Bloomfield Town Park.

Newberry to flush hydrants

The town of Newberry will flush water hydrants May 17 and water may become discolored. Town officials are requesting that residents refrain from doing laundry at this time.

Bloomfield NARFE

Bloomfield NARFE will meet Tuesday at Stoll's in Linton. Lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. and meeting at 12:30 p.m. All federal and retired employees are invited.

Alzheimer's Workshop

The Alzheimer's Association of Greater Indiana is offering a free workshop entitled, "Partnering with Your Doctor," at 5:30 p.m. on May 21 at the Center for Lifelong Learning at Ivy Tech Community College, 301 N. Morton Street, Bloomington. This hour-long workshop is free and open to the public. It's aimed at caregivers, people with memory loss, and anyone who wants to learn how to get the most out of their doctor visits.

Greene-Sullivan meeting

The meeting of the Executive Board of the Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative will meet in executive session to discuss confidential student records, information about prospective employees, and job performance evaluation of individual employees on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. with the regular meeting to follow at 10 a.m. in the conference room at 77 "A" St., N.E., Linton.

Moose Lodge

Moose Lodge 1434 will have a dance at 8 p.m. today. Music will be provided by Doc Mill South. Members and guests are welcome. Proceeds benefit charity.

Health Fair

The Greene County General Hospital and Home Health Breakfast/Health Fair will be from 6 a.m. - 10 a.m. on May 15 at the Linton First Baptist Church. Free screenings available. The health fair will be followed be a healthy breakfast.

2008 Bloomfield School Alumni Reunion

The 41st annual Bloomfield School Alumni Reunion will be June 14 at the BHS cafeteria. Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. and will be catered buffet style. Food Drive

Today is the 16th annual National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive. To donate just place non-perishable food items by your mailbox. All donations help stock local food pantries.

Vendors wanted

The Linton Farmer's Market is looking for vendors to sell their homegrown produce. The market begins May 10 and will be on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the northeast corner of Humphreys Park. Contact Fran Abbott at city hall for applications at 847-7754.

The Hendricksville Area Association will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday at the community center.

Free Christian concerts planned

The Good Twins will be performing free concerts in May to benefit the Vern R. Reed Memorial Chapel Building Fund in association with Open Arms Christian Ministries. They will perform at the Washington Antioch Christian Church in Washington at 6:30 p.m. on May 12; Sullivan First Baptist Church in Sullivan at 6:30 p.m. on May 13; Cincinnati Christian Church in Bloomfield at 7 p.m. on May 14; Word of Life Assembly in Bloomfield at 6:30 p.m. on May 15; Princeton Christian Church in Princeton at 6:30 p.m. on May 16; and at the Sullivan First Christian Church in Sullivan at 6:30 p.m. on May 18. 1998 WRV class reunion

Flower and Bake sale

A flower/plant bake and miscellaneous sale will be from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. today at the Jasonville Senior Citizen Center. Stockton Township deadline

The deadline for filing all tax forms in Stockton Township is May 15. A penalty applies to all those received after this deadline. Personal property includes all business and farm equipment, RVs, ATVs, boats, Gator-type vehicles and heavy equipment. For more information contact the office at 847-2842. Switz City Housing Rehab

Grant Applications

The Town of Switz City will accept applications for housing rehabilitation grants on May 13 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Town Hall at 230 Charlotte Ave. Grants are for low and moderate income persons living within the corporate limits of Switz City who own and are living in the house. Single-wide trailers are not eligible.

Mother's Day buffet

A Mother's Day buffet will be from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lewis Township Fire Department. Cost is adults $8, children 10 and under $5, and children under 3 years of age eat free. Buffet includes 13 hot items, and 18 salad bar items.

Homecoming service

On Sunday, a special anniversary and homecoming service will be at Blessed Hope Baptist Church to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the church. Following the morning celebration, the church plans to smash two vehicles, partake in some refreshments, and fellowship with friends. GED testing

GED testing for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is given on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School. Those wishing to take the exam must register in person, one week prior to the exam and present three pieces of ID including one photo ID. Cost of the exam is $60 which must be paid at time of registration. The next exam will be given May 13 and 14. For more information contact 659-3862

HIV Testing

Nehemiah House Fundraiser

A dinner and gospel sing fundraiser benefiting the Nehemiah House will be May 16 . Food from 5- 7 p.m. and music from 7 - 9 p.m. The meal is $5 for Italian beef sandwiches, chips, dessert and drink. New Creations will entertain.

Spaghetti Lunch

A spaghetti lunch will be held from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. today at Linton First Christian. Proceeds will go to Habitat for Humanity. The cost is $8 per person for spaghetti, salad, bread sticks, drink and dessert. The church is located on State Road 54 East, just past Wal-Mart. Richland Township reminder

The deadline for all personal property taxes is May 15. A filing must be made on personal properties, business inventory and equipment, RVs, pick-up campers, and three or four-wheel farm inventory and equipment. LHS Class of 1955, 1956 to gather

The Linton-Stockton High School classes of 1955 and 1956 will have a joint reunion Aug. 8 with a potluck picnic at the home of Shelby Padgett Meurer (Class of 1956). Activities will continue Aug. 9 with a breakfast at Stoll's Country Inn. On Aug. 10 the class members are invited to attend a local church service together. The fun-filled weekend is open to all graduates of the these two classes and anyone else who attended school with them. Greene County Humane Society

The Greene County Humane Society is asking for donations of small, square bales of good grass hay for three nearly-starved horses which were rescued last week. These are very thin, needy horses. LSHS Class of 1988

The Linton-Stockton High School Class of 1988 is currently making preparations for its upcoming 20-year class reunion. Worthington Playground Fund

Saron Church of Christ and St. Peter Catholic Church have combined their food pantries. The Linton Community Food Pantry is located at 440 E. St. NE (the former St. Peter Food Pantry). Solsberry Church coat giveaway

The Solsberry Christian Church VBS students raised money to give fans away during the warm weather and are now in the process of a cold weather coat giveaway. The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield.
