LPD needs help locating gun

Thursday, May 8, 2008

The Linton Police Department would appreciate a tip to help in their investigation of a stolen vehicle and gun.

LPD Police Chief Troy Jerrell said although the vehicle was recovered early Monday morning, a gun that was in the vehicle is still missing.

"It is a felony for anyone to be in possession of this gun. It was stolen and a person found to have the gun in their possession could be charged with a class B felony," said Jerrell.

Last Sunday afternoon, a Bloomfield resident who had parked his pickup truck in the 100 block of East Vincennes Street in Linton reported it as stolen around 1:30 p.m. The keys had been left in the ignition.

A number of items were in the truck and a black Delta tool box in the bed on the back.

A rifle was under the back seat of the extended cab and there was ammunition on the seat.

The truck was a 2004 black Chevrolet Z-71 pick-up with an extended cab.

The rifle was a Remington .223 rifle inside a green soft-sided case trimmed in tan.

When officers found the truck in a ditch, both the gun and the ammunition were gone.

Anyone with information about the theft of the truck or the gun should contact the Linton Police Department at 812-847-4411 or Greene County Crime Stoppers at 812-TIP-LINE.

donr- If you say that you have never left your vehicle unlocked in front of your house you are a liar. Ignorant, negative people like you are a lot of what is wrong in the world. I feel sorry for you, but I hope something like this doesn't happen to you.

NO DonR it serves no one that anything is stolen.

That is his property and in a right world (I know but we are trying) it would remain untouched.

What if you were caught speeding said that it served you right. NO it serves no one right when something has been done to them.

The person shouldn't have left his vehicle unlocked with the keys in his truck! Serves him right that the truck was stolen even though it shouldn't have been stolen. SERVERS HIM RIGHT!!!!
