The towns of Switz City and Worthington will both be applying for a Housing Development Fund Homeowner Repair and Improvement Grant from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority.
The Southern Indiana Development Commission (SIDC) is administering the entire program and grant application processes on behalf of both Towns.
The towns will be applying for the grants in September.
Prior to submitting those applications, the towns will accept applications from eligible homeowners.
When the overall grant application is turned in to Indiana Housing Authority, the towns need to show that there are sufficient numbers of homeowners who are able to participate in the program.
After the grant is approved by Indiana Housing, SIDC will get in contact with all of the individual applicants to do additional verifications and get the ball rolling on their repairs and improvements.
Homeowners may be eligible for items such as new windows, roofing, siding, heating and air conditioning, plumbing, electrical work and insulation.
Applicants must live within the corporate limits of the towns, must own the house and be living in the house. Single-wide trailers are not eligible.
The awarding of assistance will be based upon household size and income.
Switz City will accept applications from homeowners May 13 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Switz City Town Hall at 230 Charlotte Ave.
Worthington will accept applications from homeowners at the Worthington Town Hall at 20 S. Commercial St. Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. and on Monday from 1-6 p.m.
For more information on the income limits or other aspects of the program, individuals should contact Jenny Dearwester, Housing Program Manager, at SIDC, (812) 295-3707.
