Brook Tarr, who serves as Orange County Highway engineer, was successful in his bid for the District 62 state representative's nomination.
He will face Democratic incumbent Sandy Blanton in the fall election. Blanton took over when former State Representative Jerry Denbo retired last year.
Tarr, who lives in Orleans, finished with 62 percent of the votes in district -- which includes parts of Greene, Orange, Martin and Lawrence counties. He was followed by Jamie Harris with 22 percent, Greene County resident Donald Patton had 18 percent and Judith Coleman 17 percent.
In Greene County balloting, Patton, who lives near Owensburg, led the with 333 votes. Coleman tallied 321 votes, Tarr had 235 and Harris finished with 186 votes.
There were no other contested state representative races involving Greene County precincts.
Incumbent Republican Bruce Borders of Jasonville will face opposition in his District 45 race from former North Knox Girls Basketball Coach Rick Marshall, who's running for the seat on the Democrat ticket.
Another incumbent, District 60 State Representative Peggy Welch, a Democrat from Bloomington, had no Primary opposition and no one has filed to challenge her in the fall election.
In the U.S. House of Representative 8th District race, incumbent Brad Ellsworth, an Evansville Democrat will face Terre Haute resident Greg Goode, a Republican. Ellsworth is seeking reelection to a second term.
