Throw in a governor's race and a host of county and school board races on a beautiful sunny day and the numbers will be high.
More than half of Greene County's 19,047 registered voters -- or 51.89 percent -- either went to the polls or voted absentee in Tuesday's Primary Election, according Marjorie Cullison, a deputy in the Greene County Voter Registration Office.
Twenty-two of the 32 precincts in the county had voter totals that exceeded 50 percent with three over 60 percent.
Cullison said in some Primary Elections during non-presidential years, country-wide turnout would do good to reach 30 percent.
Leading the way Tuesday were Fairplay Precinct with 65 percent (250 of 393 registered), Taylor 61 percent (441 of 725) and Richland 3 with 60 percent (371 of 620).
Precincts over 50 percent included: Cass 55 percent (118 out of 215), Grant Precinct 56 percent (243 of 433), Highand 53 percent (223 of 417), Jefferson 1 56 percent (358 of 644), Jefferson 2 53 percent (299 of 568), Richland 1 52 percent (432 of 826), Richland 2 59 percent (466 of 784), Richland 4 56 percent (447 of 792), Smith 58 percent (127 of 222), Stockton 1 51 percent (333 of 650), Stockton 2 54 percent (626 of 1152), Stockton 3 54 percent (374 of 696), Stockton 4 51 percent (397 of 785), Stockton 6 57 percent (389 of 686), Stockton 7 55 percent (403 of 728), Washington 1 58 percent (170 of 292), Washington 2 52 percent (195 of 377), Wright 3 52 percent (259 of 498), Wright 4 51 percent (222 of 433), and Wright 5 56 percent (302 of 537).
On the low side, Beech Creek 1 was at 40 percent (232 of 580 registered), Jackson 41 percent ( 416 of 1012), Center Township 2 had 42 percent turnout (452 of 1082), Beech Creek 2 registered 42 percent (256 of 612), Center 1 45 percent (281 of 623), Stafford 47 percent (145 of 306), Wright 2 (130 of 277), and Stockton 5 49 percent (335 of 681).
County-wide, 9,883 people cast a ballot Tuesday -- 8,606 in person at a polling location and 1,277 by absentee ballot.
Nearly all of those or 9,491 cast a ballot in either the Democrat of Republican races for U.S. President.
