The Lady Cards wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Kendra Spelts had a two-run double and Britney Myers added a two-run triple in the top of the first inning for the early lead and they never looked back.
"It was a relief to get the four runs there in the first inning tonight," Lady Cards head coach Jessica Lauderdale said. "You could tell by scoring first the butterflies were gone from the girls and they just played a lot more relaxed tonight."
Lady Cardinal pitching ace Shelby Gott earned the win inside the circle, improving to 11-4 on the season, which accounts for all of the BHS decisions.
The sophomore right-hander frustrated the Stars hitters all game long, by fanning 14 batters and allowing five hits. The 14 punch-outs are one off a career-high.
"We got another great effort from Shelby tonight," Lauderdale said. "We played excellent defense behind her, which was really the key to our success early in the season.
The Cardinals started off the season winning 10 of their first 11 game before having lost their last three heading into the game against the Stars.
"It was nice to get a good win tonight and end the streak," Lauderdale said. "This will really get our confidence built back up for our game Friday against North Daviess."
Myers and Gott paced the nine hit attack for the visitors with a pair of hits apiece.
Holly Zschiedrich added a single for the victors. Junior Kelsey Spelts came into the game as a pinch runner and scored the fifth and final Cardinal run in the seventh inning.
"This was just a well played game tonight, you could tell that we played a lot more competitive in this game."
The Lady Cards will have a couple days off to prepare for their Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference clash against North Daviess Friday at home.
