Tigers rally to beat Miners 7-6

Tuesday, May 6, 2008

Hutsonville, Ill. scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to post a 7-6 victory over host Linton-Stockton in a high school baseball game at Roy Herndon Field Tuesday.

The Miners slipped to 9-9 with the loss.

"We had some positives like Adam Neff going 2-for-3 with three runs scored," said Linton-Stockton coach Bart Berns. "Jeff Laughlin was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.

"Jarrett Lannan was 2-for-4 and Luke Knight went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. That was the positives on offense. The negatives were eight strikeouts including two with two on in the bottom of the seventh."

Berns said that Laughlin, who was the losing pitcher as his record dropped to 2-2, pitched three beautiful innings to start and also pitched a nice fifth.

"He gave up a two-run homer in the fourth and another in the seventh to Jeff Otte," said Berns. "Neff came in the seventh and struck out two of the four guys he faced.

"Neff got the first guy to ground and then issued a walk. He then fanned two in a row to get us out of the seventh. This was his first appearance this year. He threw strikes and could be a kid that can help us."

Linton-Stockton will play at 7 p.m. Thursday at home against White River Valley.
