To say this was a big win is an understatement. This is the first time the Cardinal seniors have witnessed a victory over the Lions. Bloomfield's last win against Loogootee was in the 2004 season. Earlier this season, LHS put a 5-0 loss on the Cardinals at the Loogootee Invitational Tournament. Today was a huge win.
Bloomfield's first point came at the No. 3 singles position where Sarah Miller defeated Kelli Potts 4-1 (retired). Bailey Maryfield had a complete turn around from her 6-0, 6-0 loss to Emily Callahan in the early season match-up and disposed of Callahan today 6-3, 6-1.
The No. 2 singles spot was the deciding match and neither player wanted to give it up. Bloomfield's Nikkole Thombleson won the three-set test of endurance 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.
The No. 2 doubles team of Lindley Gremore and Rachel Toon pressed Chelsea Strange and Brittney Bateman to 3 sets but were defeated 6-2, 5-7, 6-0. This match should give them the confidence they need be able to defeat the Lions duo. In the first meeting Gremore and Toon lost to Strange and Bateman 6-1, 6-1.
Abbie Humerickhouse and Christina Neill were beaten by Valerie Wickman and Sarah Allen 6-2, 6-1. The score isn't really indicative of how close the match was.
Bloomfield plays its final home match of the year Wednesday against visiting Barr-Reeve for a 4:30 p.m. match. Seniors Abbie Humerickhouse, Nikkole Thombleson, and Courtney Dallmier will be honored.
