Benham-Martin defeated David N. Powell, 1,627 to 1,272. Out of the total votes cast county-wide, the vote count for Benham-Martin represents 56.12 percent of the total and the vote count for Powell represents 43.88 percent.
When the final vote count came in, Benham-Martin said she was ecstatic.
"I want to thank all of the voters of Greene County, and especially my family and friends -- they have just been tremendous," said Benham-Martin.
As the Republican candidate, Benham-Martin will now face Jacob Fish when voters go to the polls again in November. Fish defeated Karen Strueh to become the Democrat Party's candidate for Greene Superior Court Judge.
The winner of the race in the General Election will step into the place of Greene Superior Court Judge David Holt who, earlier this year, announced his intention to retire at the end of his current term.
"This has been a goal of mine since before I went to law school. Now I feel like I am one step closer to reaching my goal," said Benham-Martin.
She also expressed a thank you to Powell for running a good, positive race.
"This campaign has been a very positive experience for me. I've enjoyed meeting with the citizens of Greene County and I want to say thank you to all the wonderful people I've met. I am extremely excited and I'm ready to start campaigning for the fall," said Benham-Martin.
