Worthington man faces charges

Friday, May 2, 2008
A Worthington man was taken to jail Thursday evening after another Worthington man accused him of pointing a loaded firearm in his direction.

Robert L. Stalcup, 25, was arrested by Greene County Sheriff's Deputy Chris McDonald and booked into jail on preliminary charges of pointing a firearm, a class D felony, and possession of a handgun, a class A misdemeanor.

According to the probable cause affidavit written by McDonald and filed in Greene Superior Court on Friday, McDonald responded at approximately 8:48 p.m. on Thursday to Bluff and Christian Streets in Worthington to a report that an individual had supposedly pointed a firearm at another individual.

The report was made by V. Lee Spoor II who told officers about an alleged incident which happened on a small bridge on County Road 200 West and C.R. 800 North.

Spoor said he was standing by the bridge when a truck approached so he moved his vehicle off to the side of the road to allow the truck to pass. Spoor said the driver waved at him as he went by then spun gravel all over his car. Spoor said he then followed the truck in an attempt to get a plate number but could not see it until they were on State Road 157. When the truck slowed way down, Spoor said he started to pass when the driver pointed a handgun out the window directly at him. Spoor stated he didn't pass the truck but continued to follow it to a driveway at Bluff and Christian Streets.

According to the affidavit, Spoor advised officers that he stopped and asked the driver why he had pulled a gun on him, and why he spun gravel onto his car. The two argued, and then Spoor drove off.

When police arrived, Stalcup said he was the driver of the truck, that he had no weapons on him but did have in his truck. He said he had a gun permit.

Officers located two loaded handguns in the truck. His Indiana gun permit was found to have expired on March 17, 2008.

Stalcup told officers someone had tried to run him off the road and also stated he never pointed his gun at anyone.

Stalcup was being held on $5,000 bond pending his initial appearance in court.

Sorry to hear about all of this but I have one thing to say. This guy has been caught doing other things before this but he has always gotten out of it, So if you think he will get into trouble over this Im sorry to tell you that I bet he wont.

Thankfully he didn't shoot you. I have had enough of my friends dying. I can appreciate wanting answers but please I beg of you, for those that love you, don't seek out an explanation. There isn't always a reason other than this guy is a mother trucker that nearly killed one of my best friends b/c he has not the ability to think logically. He lacks the gnards to verbally express himself and is obviously uneducated. You live to see another day and I am thankful.
