Born to William and Dora (Allen) Baker on September 28, 1919 in Marco. He married Elenor Minnie McDonald on December 6, 1941.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served during World War II. During his military career he was the recipient of five combat awards which include a Purple Heart and five Bronze Stars. He later worked as a truck driver for Detroit Edison for 30 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Frank Courtney American Legion Post No. 22, VFW 7118 and DAV Chapter No. 99.
Survivors include: his daughters, Susan (Nick) Duytschaver of Linton and Linda (Jerry) Bandemer of Oscoda, MI; grandchildren, Malinda Rothe, Jerry Bandemer, Jr., Laura Northrop, Chuck, Robert, David and Dawn Skidmore; sisters, Phyllis Larabee of Canada and Alberta Moore of Port Huron, MI; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers and one sister.
Friends may call at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel from 4-7:30 p.m. on Monday with military honors to be conducted at 7:30 PM with American Legion Post Chaplain officiating. Interment will be at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East in Michigan at a later date.
The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
