Multiple law enforcement agencies involved in Monday night hunt for Worthington man

Tuesday, March 25, 2008
Officers from numerous law enforcement agencies responded Monday evening to assist Greene County Sheriff's Deputies in a search for a man who had threatened to harm himself and others.

Around 10:30 p.m., when officers were called to investigate an altercation along U.S. 231 near County Road 250 North, they learned that one of the subjects involved had fled the scene on foot.

The subject was later identified as Arthur "Jay" Hansen, 30, of Worthington.

According to a news release from the Greene County Sheriff's Department (GCSD), Hansen had called 911 and advised that he was not going to jail and officers would have to shoot him.

To help in the search for Hansen, officers responded from several surrounding departments including the Indiana State Police, Bloomfield Police Department, Worthington Police Department, Linton Police Department, Lyons Police Department, Jasonville Police Department and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

After searching an area of several miles, the GCSD reported Hansen was located at the Switz City Sewage Treatment facility. They also said that he attempted to hang himself in the barbed wire as the police officers approached him.

Hansen was taken for a mental evaluation.

Criminal charges are expected to be filed upon his release.

No further details have been released by the Sheriff's Department as of Tuesday evening.
