He was born June 18, 1921 in Owen County to Owen and Martha (Bryant) Martin. He married Billie Louise Meek in 1940.
He was self employed for many years, operating a small log and lumber business. In later years, he was a logging equipment salesman for Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois. He served as an agent for Indiana Department of Revenue and was also a school bus driver for Solsberry, Newark, and Eastern Greene schools. He was a Democrat precinct committeeman and was recognized for 50 years of service by former Governor Evan Bayh.
He was a charter member of Faith Christian Church in Bloomfield.
Survivors include: his wife, Billie L. Martin of Bloomfield; daughter, Linda (Jim) Halliburton of Bloomfield; granddaughters Jenny (Roger) Waggoner and Mandy Halliburton of Bloomfield, Sandy (Troy) Fields of Owensburg; grandson Tim (Cindy) Halliburton of Indianapolis; great grandchildren Tara, Tegan, Tayla, and Tia Fields, Daniel, Matthew, and Jeremiah Waggoner, Troy and Maggie Halliburton; brothers Donald and Herschel Martin of Hendricksville; and sister Virginia Egan of Hendricksville; and a step-sister Evelyn May of Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father Frank Monroe, infant twins Richard and Ronald.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer with Reverend Henry Mann and Pastor James Dwyer officiating. Burial will be at Cataract Cemetery following the service.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and after 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
