She was born Jan. 28, 1916 in Sullivan County to Bernard Switzer Tipton and Cornelia (Creasy) Tipton.
She had a Bachelor's degree from Indiana State Teacher's College in Terre Haute and started teaching at 16 years of age. She received her Master's degree from Columbia University in New York. She was a high school home economics teacher in Lee, IL; Bridgeton, IN; and Indianapolis and was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association.
Survivors include: brothers, Eldon C Tipton of Jasonville, Bernard Tipton of North Carolina and Thomas Woodrow Tipton of Lansing, IL ; numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Fernald; parents; a sister, Rubylee Ward; and a brother, Don Tipton
Cremation was requested so that a memorial service could be held in the summer when all of her family would be able to attend. Burial will follow in K of P Cemetery at Hymera.
Arrangements are being handled by McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home in Jasonville.
