Chocolate Detectives

On March 18 at 2 p.m., children in grades K-6 are invited to become Chocolate Detectives at the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library main branch. Detectives will try to identify candy bars, solve a mystery, and, of course, do a little chocolate taste-testing. Children must be registered to attend. To register, call 384-4125 and ask for the children's department.

Services at Blessed Hope Baptist

Easter Sunday at Blessed Hope Baptist Church is an exciting day for the whole family as the church kicks off its Spring New Life Campaign! Evangelist Monte Watts will be preaching in all services on Sunday. The author of "From an Iron Lung to a Pulpit," Evangelist Watts was called to preach after being diagnosed with a debilitating disease that sent him to an iron lung and has left him crippled. Following the morning service, there will be a balloon launch. Blessed Hope is located south of Jasonville on State Road 59. Times of services are Sunday school at 9:30 a.m., Sunday morning preaching at 10:30 a.m., Sunday evening at 7 p.m., and Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.

Sheep shearing day

Wee Sheep Shetland Farm Shearing Day will be Saturday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. You can see Shetland Sheep being sheared by David Harshbarger. Members of the Bloomington Spinners and Weavers Guild will demonstrate spinning on a wheel and drop spindle and weaving on a rigid heddle loom. Directions to the farm from downtown Bloomfield: Go north on State Road 157 for five miles, turn east onto CR 500 and go about 1.5 miles to the farm.

Magic Mutts club to meet

The Greene County 4-H Magic Mutts dog club will be having a meeting March 17 at 6:30 p.m. Anyone in grade 3 through 12 is eligible to join. Members will teach their dogs basic obedience which includes sit, down, stay and healing. Practices will be Monday evenings starting at 6:30 and will last about an hour. You will need to bring your dog with you to each of these practices and the meeting on the 17th. You will need to provide a 6 foot leash, buckle collar and a water bowl for your dog. Anyone interested in showing their dog at this year's fair must attend these practices. All dogs must be at least 6 months old, be owned by a member of the immediate family and be current on all vaccinations. Special Olympics meeting

Registration and information on the Special Olympics in Greene County will be provided on March 18 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Bloomfield Public Library Community Room, Linton Public Library Community Room, and Eastern Greene High School Library. The group is actively seeking private and corporate donations at the gold, silver, and bronze levels. Please send donations to Special Olympics, P.O. Box 87 Linton, Ind., 47441. Dugger Lodge 721 to meet

Dugger Lodge 721 will meet Monday at 7 p.m. for FC Degree work. Members and visiting brethren are welcome.

Linton-Stockton School Board

The Linton-Stockton Board of School Trustees will meet in executive session Monday at 7 p.m., followed by the open session at 7:30 p.m.

Shakamak School Board

The MSD of Shakamak School Board of Trustees will hold an executive session at 4 p.m. today in the central office conference room. The board will also meet for its regular monthly session at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the central office conference room. There will be another executive session at 6 p.m. Thursday prior to the monthly session.

Special service Sunday at

Harvest Community Church

Harvest Community Church will host a "3:16 celebration" based on Max Lucado's popular book "3:16 The Numbers of Hope" on Palm Sunday, March 16. Pastor Jeff Williams and Associate Pastor John Preston are asking church members to invite their friends to this Palm Sunday service at 10:25 a.m. The church is located half a mile east of U S. 231 on County Road 400 South, south of Bloomfield. Spaghetti dinner

The Greene County 4-H Horse and Pony Club will host an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner from noon to 3 p.m. on March 16 at the 4-H Fairgrounds. Cost is $4.50 for adults and $3.50 for children 12 and under. Meal includes spaghetti, salad, bread and a drink.

Bloomfield kindergarten enrollment

Bloomfield Elementary will host its kindergarten enrollment from 8:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. on Friday in the literacy lab. Students must be 5 years old by Aug. 1. You must bring immunization record, birth certificate, proof of residence and contact information. If you have any questions contact the school at 384-4271.

Greene County Singles dance

The Greene County Singles will host a dance Friday at the 4-H Fairgrounds. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., dinner will be at 7 p.m., and dance at 8 p.m.

Raffle for hand-hooked rug

The Newberry Progressive Club is selling raffle tickets for a hand-hooked rug. The rug -- on display at the Bloomfield State Bank Newberry Branch -- was designed by Janice Spaulding and hand-hooked by Marilyn Stewart and Jan Cabel. Tickets are $1 each or 10 for $5. Tickets can be purchased at the BSB Newberry Branch or from any Progressive Club member. The drawing will be May 3. Proceeds will be used to benefit the Newberry community.

Surfing lessons offered

Learn to surf ... the Internet that is. A five-week class specifically designed for those 60-plus is being offered at the Greene County Community Learning Center beginning March 17. The class will meet for five Monday evenings from 6-9 p.m. and will cover learning to use the Internet, sending and receiving e-mail and attachments such as photos, and protecting your computer from viruses. Cost is $5.64 for those 60+, retired and not working fulltime, and the book cost is $50. Students must be a high school graduate and some familiarity with computers is preferred. Contact the Greene County Community Learning Center at 659-3862 to register. Space is limited, and registration deadline is today.

Goose Pond photo contest

Attention all amateur photographers. Combine your spring nature walks and love of photography with a trip to Goose Pond. The Friends of Goose Pond, a non-profit organization, is sponsoring a calendar photo contest featuring photos shot at Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area within the past two years. CPR/First Aid

The American Red Cross of the Wabash Valley, Greene County Unit is offering a CPR and First Aid community course at 8 a.m. on March 15 at Heritage Hall -- former Elks Building, located at 190 N. Main St. in Linton. To register call (812) 227-0585 by March 12.

Easter egg hunt

Mansions in Heaven Church is holding an Easter egg hunt at 10:30 a.m. on March 15 at its South Franklin St. Bloomfield location.

Bloomfield Booster Club

The Bloomfield Booster Club is having an all-you-can-eat breakfast fundraiser from 6-10 a.m. on March 15 at the Bloomfield Baptist Church. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door or you can purchase a ticket at the following businesses in Bloomfield: 1st Security Insurance -- John Mensch, Bloomfield State Bank -- Dwayne Hostetter, Hartman and Paddock -- Tena Doane.

Emergency Food and Shelter funding

Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for emergency food and shelter program funds must contact Vonda Smith at (812) 699-2002 for instructions on how to apply. The deadline for applications is March 13.

Greene County General Hospital Auxiliary

Greene County General Hospital Auxiliary will hold a candy sale from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. today in the hospital lobby. Easter candy is available.

Providence Baptist Church revival

Easter egg hunt

Lyons Health and Living Center will host an Easter egg hunt at 11 a.m. on March 22 on the center's lawn.

Linton Gamma Tau Chapter of Tri Kappa

Linton Gamma Tau Chapter of Tri Kappa has rescheduled its basket bingo for 6:30 p.m. March 13 at the Linton High School Auditeria. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. There will also be a silent auction with several Longaberger items available. Game and door prizes will be Longaberger items. Concessions will be available. No smoking. You must be 18 years of age to attend.

Peavey Cemetery

The Peavey Cemetery Board will begin spring cleanup on April 1. The board is requesting the removal of winter decorations/wreaths (which interfere with mowing) prior to April 1. Memorial Day decorations that interfere with mowing should be removed by June 15.

Easter Egg Hunt in Jasonville

The Community Easter Egg Hunt in Jasonville will be at the Shakamak Good Samaritan Retirement Community on March 15 at 2 p.m. The age groups are 0-2; 3-5 and 6-8. The first group will start at 2 p.m. Once they are finished the second group will start and the final group will follow. The Jasonville Volunteer Fire Department will be offering rides on the fire truck. The Lyons Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. on March 18 at the community building.

LHS Class of 1978

The Linton-Stockton High School class of 1978 will host its 30th year class reunion/pitch dinner at 6 p.m. on July 4 at the American Legion Park in Linton. All graduating and non-graduating class members are encouraged to attend. For more information or to RSVP call Jackie Strong at 847-7878.

Alzheimer's support

The Alzheimer's Association offers caregiver support group meetings at 7 p.m. on the last Thursday of the month at the Linton Public Library.

Worthington Playground Fund

The staff members and students at White River Valley-Worthington Elementary School are raising funds to replace playground equipment in memory of former principal the late Larry Catron. Donations of all amounts are being accepted and engraved bricks are being sold. Call 875-3839 for more information.

Saron Church of Christ

Saron Church of Christ and St. Peter Catholic Church have combined their food pantries. The Linton Community Food Pantry is located at 440 E. St. NE (the former St. Peter Food Pantry). The hours are 1-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. - noon on Saturdays. The St. Peter Thrift Shop will remain open at that location at the same hours.

Lenten/Holy Week service schedule

The Central Greene County Ministerial Association has set the schedule for its annual Lenten Breakfast series and Holy Week services. The Lenten Breakfast schedule is as follows: March 15 -- Mineral United Methodist Church. The breakfasts all begin at 8 a.m. This year's breakfasts will feature a series of dramas titled "The People Vs. Jesus." The primary actors will be the CGCMA clergy. An offering is received at each breakfast to be used to fuel the various ministries and missions of the CGCMA. The Holy Week Schedule is as follows: March 20 -- Community Maundy Thursday Service (new this year), 6 p.m., First United Methodist; March 21 -- Community Good Friday service, 7 p.m., First Christian Church; March 23 -- Community Easter Sunrise Service, 7 a.m., First Baptist Church.

Greene County Soil and Water Conservation

The Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District will meet the first Thursday of each month in the office in Bloomfield at 6 a.m. The public is welcome to attend. For more information call 384-4781, Ext. 3

Lyons Senior Citizens center

The Lyons Senior Citizens Center, 150 N. Jefferson St., now has wooden toy crafts for sale. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lyons First Christian Church youth group

The Lyons First Christian Church youth group meets at 6 p.m. on Mondays at the church's East Broad Street location.

Solsberry Church coat giveaway

The Solsberry Christian Church VBS students raised money to give fans away during the warm weather and are now in the process of a cold weather coat giveaway. If you need a coat or know of someone who does, please contact Aaron Miller (812) 825-5222 (ext. 3) to schedule an appointment to pick up a coat.

Dugger Legion to meet

The Rexford Ballard American Legion Post 224 will meet the first and third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

Jasonville Senior center update

The Jasonville Senior Citizen Center, located at 145 S. Lawton, has opened a country store and gift shop. It will be open from 9 a.m.-noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All proceeds will benefit the senior center. For more information, call the center at 665-9882.

Wig bank

The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield. Narcotics Anonymous

Narcotics Anonymous will meet Saturdays at 7 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church on State Road 54 East. There will be open discussion and all are welcome.

Food pantry

Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

Bloomfield Food pantry

The Refuge Assembly of God food pantry will be open every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. to assist those living in Bloomfield. To donate, please contact Trina at 384-8093 during the pantry's open hours.
