She was born in Greene County on Sept. 23, 1927, the daughter of William H. and Clara Bell (Cooksey) Mowery.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed baking and decorating wedding cakes.
She was a member of the St. Marks Methodist Church of Bloomington and a past Matron and member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Columbian Chapter #140, of Linton. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters, Valerie Flynn of Bloomington and Harlene Eggleston of Pickerington, OH; two brothers, Elmer Mowery of Worthington and Carroll Mowery of Linton; six sisters, Helen Acord of Yacca Valley, CA, Ina Cardinal of Bruceville, Marcella McDonald of Linton, Effie Smiley of Linton, Ethel White of Linton and Carolyn White of Lyons; three grandchildren, Rebecca Flynn of Bloomington, Sandy Hanson of Columbus, OH and John Adam Hanson of Chapel Hill, NC; and two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Colin Hanson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Adam E. Yates on May 13, 1997; three brothers, James, Franklin and William Mowery; and two sisters, Edna Rhoten and Martha Summerville.
Funeral service will be held at the Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 2 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Mark Mowery officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday with an Order of the Eastern Star Service at 7 p.m., and on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
