He was born in Dugger on March 17, 1931, the son of Raymond and Clara Dessie (Risher) Walton.
He was a 1949 graduate of Dugger High School. He was a member of the Linton Moose Lodge. Jim worked as an auto dealer in salvage for many years.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Walton of Bloomfield; a son, James Steven Walton of Springville; an adopted daughter, Michele Walton of Richmond, VA; his lifelong companion, Audrey Johnson of Linton and her sons, Monty A. Casner of Seymour abd Morgan E. Casner of Atlanta, GA; twelve grandchildren, Freddie (Amanda) Neidigh, Jr., Amanda (Jerry) Burnette, Christina Dixon, Stephanie (Bryce) Benefiel, Kevin Walton, Richard Walton, Jr., Autum Foster, Stevie, Shiwania, Stacey, Cassie, Cindy and Logan; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Wilma Walton; two brothers, Harold and Wendall Walton; a sister, Betty Clayton; one son, Richard Harold Walton; one great-granddaughter, Cheyanne Elizabeth.
Funeral services will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 1 p.m. with Rev. Myron Young officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-9 p.m. and on Thursday from 11a.m. until the time of service.
