Born Jan. 16, 1932, in Monroe County, he was the son of Cleveland and Lora (Young) Heltenburg.
HE worked many years for local trucking companies as a driver, then became a bus driver for Indiana University from 1982 to present.
He was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Bloomfield.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Ruth (Sherlock-Eads) Heltenburg; one daughter, Rita Grove and her husband, David, of Bloomfield; three sons, Maurice "Reese" Heltenburg of Bloomington, Roger Eads and his wife, Patricia, of Oolitic, Gerald Eads and his wife, Nancy, of Seymour; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Boyd was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jack Heltenburg; a sister, Fidella "Toobie" Swango; and a granddaughter, Julie Marie Eads.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, at the Allen Funeral Home in Bloomington with Rev. David Wilde officiating.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with burial at Clover Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.
