He was born March 17, 1932, in Knox County, the son of Claude S. Gabbart, Sr. and Mary (Goad) Gabbart.
He was an electrician and a coal miner. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and was an Army veteran and was a veteran of the Navy Reserves.
Survivors include: two daughters, Beth Fusco and her husband, Mike, of Linton, Cheri Lundy and her husband, Robert, of Linton; a son, Claude S. "Skip" Gabbart and his wife, Phyllis, of Centralia, IL; a sister, Vera Lee of Oakland City, eight grandchildren, Stacee Glenn, Tony Fusco, Cory and Shane Barnes, and Aaron, Sam, Suzanne, and Lisa Schneider; and 10 great-grandchildren, Corianne, William, Ashtynn, Tryston, Alyssa, Austin, Dylan, Jadalynn, Emma, & Shayna.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" (Jenkins) Gabbart, Oct. 4, 2003; three sisters, Diane Crum, Margaret Crose and Thelma Jackson; a brother, Hubert Gabbart ; one great-grandson, Logan Powel;; and his parents.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery in Linton with Reverend Doug Cassel officiating.
