Jack E. "Dugger Jack" Cottingham

Jack E. "Dugger Jack" Cottingham, 83, of Sullivan, passed away at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007 at Sullivan County Community Hospital in Sullivan.

Born Sept. 14, 1924 in Sullivan, he was the son of Frank Cottingham and Anna Bowers Cottingham.

He was a member of the Iron Workers Local No. 439 in Terre Haute for 65 years, the Dugger Masonic Lodge, VFW in Sullivan, and American Legion Post No. 22 in Linton.

A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he served in the Philippines. During the early 60's , he was a regular at the Terre Haute Dragway.

He is survived by two sons, Terry J. Cottingham and his wife Judy of Vincennes, Doug G. Cottingham and wife Karen of Dugger; six grandchildren, Jack L. Cottingham, Jeremy Cottingham, Justin Cottingham, Autumn Cottingham, Brandy Holtsclaw, and Jeff Powell; seven great-grandchildren; other survivors include two brothers; Fred Cottingham and Mickey McCombs both of New Port Richey, Fl.; two sisters; Bonnie Taylor of New Port Richey, Fl., and Ruby Richardson of Terre Haute; a sister in-law Maxine Andre and her husband Louie; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-father Frank McCombs, his wife of 56 years Eileen D. Jewell Cottingham, two brothers; John Cottingham, and Robert McCombs, three sisters; Ruth Mackey, Frances Cottingham, and Maude Riggs.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Newkirk's Funeral Home with Bro. J. B. Smith officiating. There will be a Masonic service at 1 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in the Dugger Cemetery with Dugger American Legion conducting graveside military rites.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Friday until the service time.
