Clarence J. "Jack" Shaffer, 70, of Elnora, died at 7:20 a.m. Jan. 11, 2004, in Daviess County Hospital.

Born Dec. 31, 1933, in Daviess County, he was the son of Clarence and Esther DeBolt Shaffer.

He was a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier for 20 years, retiring in 1989.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane (Hasler) Shaffer; two daughters, Jackie Sevestre of Newport News, Va., and Jerrie Alexander and her husband Dave of Chespeake, Va.; four sons, Kevin Shaffer of Elnora, Kendall and Kay Shaffer of Cosby, Tenn., Kent Shaffer of Chespeake, Va., and Keith and Darlene Shaffer of San Antonio, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Private graveside rites will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Elnora Fairview Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Anderson-Poindexter Sandborn Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
