Joseph W. White

Joseph W. White, 104, of Lyons, passed away in Lee Memorial Health System in Fort Myers, Fla., on Jan. 2, 2004 at 6:40 a.m.

Born on Nov. 10, 1899, in Lyons, he was the son of Joseph and Mollie Cullen White.

He was a farmer and a miner, and had been awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash. He was a member of the Lyons Masonic Lodge and was a precinct committeeman in Washington Township for 50 years.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Morris and Phyllis White and Bill J. and Ethel White, all of Lyons; two daughters, Mollie J. Patterson of Lyons and Helena and her husband Jack Benham of Worthington; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren, several step- grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Icie B. Jeffers White, his parents, one son Donald White, two grandchildren, three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church in Bloomfield with the Rev. Billy Ed Hostettler officiating.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at Jenkins and Sons Funeral Home in Lyons, and from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. There will also be visitation from 1 p.m. until the hour of service at the church. Masonic service performed by the Switz City Masonic Lodge 676 will be at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to the Lyons Senior Citizens Center.
