JASONVILLE ---- Arthur E. "Bill" Griggs, 80, passed away at 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at his residence.

Born June 7, 1923, in Sullivan County, he was the son of Hanson "Matt" and Lena M. (Turley) Griggs.

He was a member of the Christadelphian Church since 1948 and a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was retired from Peabody Coal Company and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret R. Griggs, whom he married on July 18, 1944; daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Rhonie Goggins of Jasonville, and Nancy and Robert Boruff of Logansport; a son, William A. Griggs of Jasonville; a sister, Dorothy L. Griggs of Jasonville; three grandchildren, Denise Collins, Susan Goggins and Peggy Barton; seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Margaret Ann "Peggy" Griggs in 1969; and a brother, Robert L. "Bob" Griggs.

Services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday at the McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home in Jasonville with Bro. Steve Evans officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery in Midland.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, and 9 a.m. until the time of service Friday.
