Born Aug. 25, 1918 in Smith Township, Greene County, he was the son of John Wiley "Aud" and Jewie (Owen) Mitchell.
He graduated from Worthington-Jefferson High School in 1936. He was an army veteran of World War II. He was the owner of a grocery store in Lyons and also worked at Peabody Coal Co., retiring in 1982. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Linton and the Masonic Lodge of Switz City.
Survivors include: his wife Geraldine (Phillips) Mitchell of Linton; his daughter Beth L. and her husband Howard W. Watts of Oldsmar, Fla.; two grandchildren, Bradly Mark Watts of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Keely Elizabeth Watts of Oldsmar, Fla.; and his great-grandchild Brynn McKenzie Watts.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Ruth (Kramer) Mitchell.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel with Nick Moore and Warren Shake officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, and after 9 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. Masonic service will be given by the Switz City Masonic Lodge at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
