Oscar H. Helms

Oscar H. Helms, 82, of Barry, Ill., and formerly of Farmersburg, passed away at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004 at his residence.

Born April 24, 1922 in Bloomfield, he was the son of Harvey and Mildred (Heaton) Helms.

He was a member of Apostolic Holiness Church in Hannibal, Mo. He formerly operated the Shell Station in Farmersburg.

Survivors include: his wife Juanita (Titsworth) Helms of Barry, Ill.; three daughters, Jean Campbell of Henderson, Ky., Joann Cagle of Henryville, and Janet Townes of Nashville, Tenn.; one stepson Jim Turnbaugh of Arthur, Ill.; one stepdaughter Carolyn Caton of Farmersburg; three brothers, Harvey Jr. Helms of Bloomington, Homer Lewis Helms of Spencer, and Ronald Helms of Bloomfield; seven sisters, Dorothy James and Lorene Lindsey, both of Solsberry, Margaret Leigh of Dugger, Vada Clayton, Nancy Craig and Nellie Yoho, all of Bloomington, and Ora Olive Vandeventer of Bloomfield; eight grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 10 step-great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Harold Dean Helms, and one sister Evelyn Helms.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Banks & Brust Funeral Home, Sullivan, with the Rev. Eugene Helms and the Rev. R.L. Grohman officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery.
