Born March 21, 1953 in Monroe County, he was the son of Harold and Barbara (Shiflet) Butcher.
He was a 1971 graduate of University High School and had received his bachelor's degree in 1976 from the HPER School with a minor in Business from Indiana University. He later received a master's in education from IU. He was a member of the Indiana University Alumni Association. Greg was a teacher and a coach at several Indiana high schools including Switz City. He was also a former athletic director at Eastern Greene High School.
Survivors include: two sons, Jason Butcher and his wife Jaime of Mooresville and Nicholas Butcher of Mulberry; one daughter Dana Elliott and her husband Austin of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Devon and Katlyn Butcher, and Delaney and Colson Elliott; his parents Harold and Barbara Butcher of Bloomington; two sisters, Cathy (Butcher) Langley and her husband Jerry of Ellettsville, and Becky (Butcher) Feather and her husband Kurt; two nephews, Austin and Cade Feather; and numerous aunts and uncles. He is also survived by his dog Barney.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday at Allen Funeral Home, 3000 East 3rd St., Bloomington, with the Rev. Tracy Noel officiating. Burial will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Friends may call today from 4-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
