Born Sept. 23, 1930 in Howard County, he was the son of Earl and Bessie (Thurston) Martin.
He was a member of the Shiloh Lutheran Church in Walton and an Army veteran.
Survivors include: his wife Audrey Wagner Martin of Linton; two sons, James R. Martin of Cumberland, R.I., and Steven A. Martin of Walton; a step-son Steven Williams of Logansport; two daughters, Terri Pearce of Denver, and Nancy M. Click of Walton; two step-daughters, Deborah DeSchepper of Wyatt, and Lisa White of Winamac; four brothers, Steve Martin of Fulton, David Martin of Greenwood, Roger Martin of Jasonville, and Reggie Martin of Galveston; two sisters, Jan Brantley of Kokomo, and Sharlyn Trine of Kokomo; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Viola M. Kranz Martin, who passed away in 1987, a brother Gene Martin, a great-grandson, and two step-children.
Cremation by request and a memorial service is pending at Walton.
