Born Aug. 11, 1929 in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of Kenneth N. and Alma (Lynch) Russell. On May 28, 1949, he married Martha (Blakely) Russell.
He was a 1947 graduate of Linton-Stockton High School and began working with his father. He was a retired owner of S & R Masonry, working as a bricklayer for 59 years. He was a member of the Grace Gospel Church in Linton, a member of the Linton-Stockton School Board from 1966-74, and a member of the Bricklayer's Union Local 4 of Terre Haute for 59 years. He was an avid golfer.
Survivors include: his wife Martha Russell of Linton; two sons, Steve Russell and his wife Susie of Linton and David Russell and his wife Jo of Linton; two daughters, Patty and her husband Rick Fish of Linton and Debbie and her husband Todd Shelton of Linton; a brother Jerry Russell and his wife Marilyn of Linton; a sister-in-law Carol Russell of Linton; 10 grandchildren, Medley Poe, Carli Pearson, Logan Fish, Jason Russell, Kirsten Fish, Jessica Laughlin, Chad Russell, Kaitlin Fish, Devin Shelton, and Curtis Russell; and three great-grandchildren, Brayden Poe, Ashlyn Fish, and Eli Poe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Norma J. Brown, a brother Donald K. Russell, and two infant sisters.
Funeral service will be at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel at 11 a.m. on Friday with the Rev. Jim Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, and Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Grace Gospel Church through the funeral home.
