Merle E. Hardy, 79, of Worthington, passed away Monday, April 10, 2006 at his home.

Born Oct. 2, 1926 in Bloomington, he was the son of Charles E. Hardy and Goldie (Lake) Hardy.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served honorably overseas during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 106 of Worthington and a lifetime member of VFW post 1771 of Worthington. He was one of only two surviving veterans from World War II at the post.

Survivors include: his children, Kay Schrieber of Palm Springs, Calif., Patrick Hardy of Worthington, and Star Hardy of Worthington; former wife and best friend Rosie Neff of Worthington; three grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Service for the family will be private.

Nathan Butler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
