Born June 27, 1938 in Martin County, he was the son of Opal and Gertrude (O'Brian) Turpin.
He was a self-employed painter and of the Baptist faith. He was an avid gardener, fisherman and hunter. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include: a daughter Kelsie Jeffries of Oolitic; three sons, Eddie Turpin and his wife Tammy, and Paul Turpin, all of Linton, and Kevin Turpin of Carlisle; three brothers, Oma Turpin of Tampa, Fla., Junior Turpin of Bloomington, and Richard Martindale of Sullivan; three sisters, Eva Meurer of Lyons, Jean Looper of Pueblo, Colo., and Deeanne Jones of Sullivan; 11 grandchildren, April, Coy, Kathryn, Jesika, Tyson, Damian, Taryn, Cameron, Trey, Peyton, and Hunter; and one great-grandchild Jacob.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Ivan, Joseph, and Paul Turpin.
Funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel with the Rev. James Olinger officiating.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. on Wednesday until the hour of service at the funeral home.
