Born Aug. 10, 1914, in Greene County, he was the son of Lewis and Laura (Hunter) Helms.
He was a self-employed farmer and was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Malissa (Blaker) Helms; six children, Bobby A. Helms of Switz City, Richard Helms and Joy Richardson, both of Bloomington, Jarrel Helms of Bloomfield, Gayle Gedrich of Annandale, Va., and Freeda Hudson of Solsberry; one brother, Otis Helms of Bloomfield; 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, McKinley Helms, Harvey Helms, Homer Helms, Lester Helms, Carl Helms and Ellsworth Helms; two sisters, Ella Jane Bland and Fern VanDeventer; and one grandson, Eric Helms.
Service will be 1 p.m. on Saturday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the Rev. Eugene Helms officiating. Burial will be at Hash Cemetery in rural Bloomfield.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. today and one hour prior to service Saturday at the funeral home.
