She worked for her father at Mitchell's Grocery Store, she and her husband, Floyd Gardner, owned the Triangle Grocery and she worked at Osborne's Store and Florida Fashions.
She was a member of Linton First Baptist Church & Business & Professional Women's Club, both of Linton, and of Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Greene County General Hospital in Linton. She was a graduate of Midland High School.
Survivors include a son, McFarren "Mac" Gardner of Southgate, Michigan, two daughters, Jo Chiparo and her husband, Anthony, of Linton, & Connie Sloan of Linton, a step-daughter, Harriet Sessenbaugh of Valparaiso, six grandchildren, James Gardner, Michele Passeno, Jeffrey Chiparo, Dr. Eric Wilson, Jon Wilson, and Brooke Driscol; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded by her first husband, Floyd Gardner, her second husband, Raymond Swaby, a twin sister, Eloise Mitchell, another sister, Arline Wise, four brothers, Max, Robert, James, & Warren Mitchell, a daughter-in-law, Dorine Gardner, a son-in-law, Robert Sloan, & her parents.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel with the Rev. David Tyra officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Monday and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice in care of the funeral home.
