He was the son of Gentry and Louise Coffey.
He served in the U.S. Navy for 15 years as a machinist mate and deep sea diver. After he left the Navy, he worked at the Naval ammo depot at NSWC Crane for eight years. He then worked as a carpenter in Florida until retiring in 1996.
He was a member of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Coffey, Old Town, Fla.; step-children Claudia Wright and husband, Mike, of Jacksonville, Fla.; Daniel and his wife, Barbara LeDue, of Wellsville, N.Y.; Evelyn LeDue, of Atlantic Beach, Fla.; Michael and his wife Candice LeDue, of Rochester, N.Y.; and Linda and her husband, Michael Geary, of Atlantic Beach, Fla.; sister, Marilyn Flick and her husband, Larry, of French Lick; brothers, David Coffey, of Middlesburg, Fla.; Bob and his wife, Sharon Coffey, of Switz City; Mike and his wife, Judy Coffey, of Mitchell; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Kathleen Smith and Betty Henson.
A memorial service will be at noon Saturday at the Owensburg Baptist Church with a pitch-in meal to follow.
Burial will be in Owensburg Cemetery.
