Born Oct. 5, 1928 in Lawrence County, he was the son of Herschel and Jeanette (Evans) Stader.
He was a veteran of U.S. Navy and served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He had been manager of the Bloomfield IGA Store and the Washington IGA Store. He was a member of the Washington American Legion, VFW and the Eagles Lodge, was a past commander of Bloomfield American Legion Post No. 196 and a member of the Washington First Christian Church -- where he served as a deacon and elder.
Survivors include his wife, Joan (McGee) Stader of Washington; one son, John Michael Stader of Lake Worth, Fla.; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Paul Myers of Sullivan; one brother, Herschel Stader, Jr. of Washington, five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Helen Marie Stader; and one daughter-in-law, Kimberly Stader.
Graveside service will be at noon (EST) on Friday at the Scotland Cemetery with Pastor Michael Luke officiating. A military graveside rite will be conducted by members of the Washington American Legion and VFW.
Friends may call at the Ed Lee Mortuary in Washington from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday.
