He was born on Dec.20, 1934, in French Lick, to William and Nellie (nee Hobson) Jones.
He worked at National Gypsum in Shoals for four years and then enjoyed a career as a carpenter for 30 years. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 1016.
He married Joyce A. Beaty on June 20, 1955, and she survives.
Other survivors include: his daughters, Debbie (James) Brim, Cathy (Steve) Struck, and Angela (Kevin) Oliver, all of Loogootee; nine grandchildren: Staci Waid, James R. Brim, and Jamie Hamilton; Zachary, Andrew and Matthew Struck; and Alisha, Jason and April Oliver; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Wilma Jones of Muncie, and Rita Jones of Bloomfield; one brother-in-law: Dale Tewell of Santa Claus; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Fred Jones; two sisters: Marie Tewell and Emma Jane McFarland.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday at Brocksmith Funeral Home in Loogootee. Burial will be in Mount Lebanon Cemetery in French Lick.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
