Dozens of people, including a handful of varsity basketball players, filled the superintendent's office to hear the announcement that Clarence Johnson , current Union High School Spanish teacher and junior varsity/assistant basketball coach, was hired as Union High School basketball coach for the upcoming year.
Johnson was also named Union High School cross country coach.
The board also accepted resignations from Rob Hester, North Central assistant baseball coach; Darin Simpson, North Central 7th/8th grade boys' basketball coach and Jacquie Secrest, Union High School assistant volleyball.
In other employment matters, the board hired Jill Wilkes, fifth grade teacher at Dugger Elementary School; Derrick Cullison, part-time custodian North Central; Jada Prechtal, cook at Farmersburg; Jane Rooney, Darlene Hunley and Cheryl Cox as corporation bus aides.
Other athletic employment positions included: Darin Simpson, North Central assistant baseball coach; Natalie Reynolds, fifth/sixth grade cheerleader sponsor at Dugger Elementary; Brandy Lanahan, North Central volleyball coach and Jill Wilkes, Union High School assistant volleyball coach.
Northeast Sullivan Schools begin classes next Wednesday, August 15.
The board approved leaves for Amanda Smith, maternity beginning December 1 and a non-paid leave for Debra Karr from August 15-24.
The board also renewed the IKON copier lease for five more years.
Farmersburg Elementary grandparent Leslie Hawker and Dugger Elementary parents Kevin and Joni Ellis questioned the board concerning classroom sizes for the upcoming year. New superintendent Dr. Mark Baker promised to look into actual enrollment numbers.
The Northeast Sullivan School Corporation board will meet for their regular monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the superintendent's office in Hymera.
