Born September 27, 1918 in Bloomfield, he was the son of Lewis and Laura (Hunter) Helms.
He was a school bus driver for Bloomfield Schools. He was also employed by Indiana University, Johnson's Standard Station in Bloomfield, and the Bloomfield Furniture Factory.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Marjorie (Terrell) Helms of Bloomfield, whom he celebrated his 70th anniversary with in March; one son, Marvin K. Helms and wife, Lela, of Bloomfield; one daughter, Alice Hallett and her husband, Denny of Bloomington; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, McKinley, Harvey, Homer, Lester, Carl, Elsworth, and Fred Helms; two sisters, Fern Vandeventer and Ella Jane Bland; and one great-grandchild.
Private funeral services will be held. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery at Bloomfield.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
