What would your 'last supper' be?

While waiting for a doctor's appointment this week, I was thumbing through the latest issue of Time magazine and came across an interesting article about the selection of "last meals" by a number of well-known chefs from around the world.
The culinary artists were all asked what their personal pick of a final "last supper" might be - similar to what a death row inmate would be asked just before execution. Surprisingly, most of the selections from these gourmet chefs turned out to be standard menu selections like fried chicken, steak and pasta dishes. Some included tasty delights like their favorite pies or candy. The story got me to thinking about what I would ask for if I knew the meal would be my last. Knowing it would be my last on the face of this earth, there would be no reason to worry about calories or the amount of sugar, so the thought was very intriguing to my palette. Anyone who knows me, knows for sure I have a real love for anything barbequed. You name any kind of meat and if you slap it on a charcoal grill, slop some barbeque sauce on it, cook it real slow and I'd eat it. I'm not very picky in that department. But if I had to make a selection for my last meal, I would have to pick barbequed mutton from my favorite eatery - Moonlight BBQ in Owensboro, KY; turtle soup from one of the church picnics around Perry or Dubois County; homemade cole slaw - the creamy kind with red cabbage and carrots; a couple big kosher dill pickles; a slice of sweet onion; and the meal wouldn't be complete without banana pudding. Yum yum. It doesn't get much better than that. I was wondering what you would pick for your "last supper'? Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Fried chicken and macaroni and cheese from Angells is pretty darn good.I would also add some steamed broccoli with melted butter and salt. A tall glass of something tasty from Oliver winery to wash it down with and a cigarette to finish me off.
Heck with it....I am having that tonight!
This is my kind of blog!
Nick, when you have your meal, give me a call and I'll help you with the BBQ.
I would like to start with some fresh butter fried local morel mushrooms, spinach salad, French onion soup, then about an inch thick ribeye steak (med. rare), if there is room, a slab of fried crappie or bass would suffice with a baked potato (with all the
fix'ns), some Indiana ripe red tomatoes, cantelope, and wrap it up with Russian cream topped with raspberries. Oh, a fresh cup of coffee would be good to get me from the table to the lazy boy.
MMMMMMMM....MMMMMMMM
GC Patriot! At last we agree on something! Your last meal sounds perfect -- except the spinach salad needs pan seared pancetta and sliced hard boiled egg, and I would prefer a Pumpkin Creme Brulee for desert. The coffee -- Guatamalan Antiqua (lowest acid beans around except for Tanzanian Peaberry).
I'll bring some fresh tomatos from my garden -- we've got 8 varieties.
I would like a variety of seafood & some home made manicotti (sp?)
They do not sound like they would go todether, but I love all seafood I have ever had & I love manicotti, so that is what I would have.
I may eve like to drink a black & tan beer. If not, a great cup of coffee will do.
Good Blog Nick...
I think I would like to have lots and lots of doughnuts and some cake, washed down with some thick, creamy chocolate milk!
Awaiting execution??..I'd go for the all you can eat buffet.
Like my Momma always said, "You are what you eat, so stay away from the fruit and the nuts." Ol Simmons
Let's see, my last meal....hmm...ok, I'd start out with a great appetizer like shrimp cocktail and crab cakes. Then I'd have a nice medium rare serlion with garlic mashed potatoes, asparagus boiled with a touch of butter, garlic bread, and a few slices of fresh tomatoes. For dessert I'd have a large piece of fresh blackberry cobbler with a dish of homemade vanilla icecream. yummmy!!......wow...I am really hungry now! lol!
lilpatrietta,
Add some mushrooms and Russian Cream and we would have a nice date. :>)
