Harrah, Franklin did a lot for Bloomfield

The recent unravelings in the Bloomfield town government -- with the sudden resignation of Police Commissioner Tom Franklin and the decision by Town Council President Eric Harrah not to seek re-election for another term -- leaves me amazed, confused and wondering who will be next?

Both were bullied into their actions.

Who can blame them?

Enough is enough.

After both of their respective announcements, they each talked about their families and wanting to protect and spare them any more ridicule, embarrassment or downright harassment.

Who can question that logic?

Have I always agreed with every decision that Tom Franklin and Eric Harrah made while serving in office? Certainly not. But when we had our disagreements, we didn't let it get personal. We worked it out.

In the process, I developed a respect for both of them. I appreciate what they have done in the Bloomfield community and everybody who lives in that community ought to share that view if they want to get real honest. Both of these guys are unquestioned community leaders and no one can deny that.

Eric Harrah worked countless hours -- many times behind the scenes out of the limelight -- donating his time and money to make Bloomfield a better place to live and work. He's lived there all his life and has helped nurture and grow a hometown business that has served and provided jobs in the community for more than 100 years.

Tom Franklin served the Greene County community for more than two decades as a law enforcement officer, county sheriff and county clerk of the courts.

In the end, both decided it was best for them and best for all the citizens that they step aside and let others run the affairs of the town.

That's where the real shame lies.

The community of Bloomfield is the real loser here.

Who will step up now and want to serve on the town council?

Is it really worth the hassle?

You decide.

Buy all of the Bloomfield jacks you want just stop buying the BFP. Maybe then Batman will fly away, dry up and go away and we can get on the right track of getting our good ole town back.

Wow! If you want your children to grow, prosper and be proud of their good ole roots. This is really something to be teaching our generations to come. Don't by anything in Bloomfield or go to the Apple Festival. And never buy a Bloomfield Jack as long as you live. Grow up and get a life. If everyone would think this way, all the good ole towns would be all dried up. I hope that makes you proud. It's a free country. So you can speak, work and shop where you want.

Hey finally some comments that make some sense, I don't think that it would be such a bad idea for Mike to run, but as he would probably say running a paper and running a town wouldn't mix well. Besides, this man who runs this VERY GOOD, VERY NEW paper, with few staff to help...is a busy man. He hasn't the time to babysit. He is the first NEWS person on the scene, at any given time of day or night....He is a very good newspaper man...he only tells it how it is and he can back up everything that gets printed in that paper....Mr. Bill Miles would be PROUD of him....I know I am.

P.S. For those of you who wonder who Mr. Miles is...he owned the Bloomfield Evening World.

mws47471 I hope you are joking about MJ running for Town Council, that is the last thing Bloomfield needs. As far as throwning in the hat, he needs to throw in the towel and take his tabloid somewhere else.

Maybe Mr. Johnson, BFP, should throw his hat in the ring for Bloomfield Town Council, being he's the only person smart enough for the job. He may buy ink by the barrel, but he also sells BS by the barrel as well.

Tom Franklin is a very likeable man. BUT what has he done for Bloomfield in the last 12-plus months? The blogger says "a lot." Name a couple of things that make up a lot.

If I knew what time it really was, I'd say that it must be time for "Your Man" Mitch to go. Let's set the BFP loose on the State Government and see what additional havoc he can create on a much larger scope. That would sell some ink.

I sure hope things IMPROVE over there.

I'm on the fence about this whole issue. I think Eric, the rest of the council and Tom have done a lot of good for Bloomfield, and were working with the towns best interests in mind. I also think that the information that was brought to light was done so with the towns best interests in mind.

Considering the above, I still don't think either party went about things in the most professional manner. The town council failed us by not following proper protocol in utilization of the good ol' boy network, and the whistleblower failed us by making it personal.

Top this all off with the bad timing of occuring during the recent crime spree in Bloomfield, and it's a bad combination for the town. I hope the police department can get back on their feet when all is said and done.
