Excuse Me Mr. Lincoln, Did You Say That You Have A Gettysburg Address

1457 Third Avenue, an address that has stuck with me for years. I lived there only until I was in the 2nd grade, but it has stayed with me all these years. Other addresses seem to come to me too and I'm not sure why. I can't remember people's names, I don't remember what I shot during a round of golf from week to week, like some people, and I'm terrible with birthdates, but for some reason, I remember addresses.
Here's a few that come to mind:
221 B Baker Street 112 ½ Beacon Street 10 Downing Street 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue 1060 West Addison Street 705 Hauser Street 16 Parkside Lane 124 Conch Street
Some people, my eldest son for example, can remember lyrics to all kinds of songs. I've also heard him and the Midnight Rambler quote lines from movies like they just saw the movie or they were reading for the part. Wiglund can remember who sang just about every song ever sung and that amazes me. It has always puzzled me why people remember certain things and I don't or can't.
Not long ago, I sat and listened to Joe Uland, who is over 90 years old, recite the entirety of Robert Service's poem, The Cremation of Sam McGee, and have also heard him recite Thayer's Casey at the Bat without any assistance whatsoever. I wonder how he's able to do that and I'm not.
Whenever I forget where I put my glasses, I'm in a panic. The only thing worse than my memory, is my eyesight. I look like Helen Keller stuck in a maze.
I'm beginning to worry about my mental health. It is disturbing to have such a terrible memory, but at least I remember addresses, so I shouldn't have any trouble finding my way home, if I don't lose my glasses.
I'm leaving for Florida after work tomorrow, so this will be it for awhile. It is time that I got away for awhile. Actually, when Oprah starts having pregnant men on her show, I think it is time for all of us to get away for awhile.
The Vengeance in Venice begins at 12:15 Friday at the Bardmoor Country Club in St. Pete. I just hope I can remember how to play.
For some good news before I leave, let me tell you that I went to visit Nigel Lehman after work today. Nigel had surgery almost two weeks ago now and he is doing great, which is really fantastic news. Comments Showing most recent comments first [Show in chronological order instead] |

Day two consisted of 36 holes at Pelican Pointe, probably my favorite course down here. We were faced with some really tough winds again today, but it was a great time.
Steve and I were paired with Dean and Janet from Ontario, Canada this morning, eh? A great couple and we had a very good time.
The painfull arthritis in my hands and the soreness everywhere else, which is the result of my extended spell of inactivity this winter, are quite evident this evening.
Fortunately, I took over the lead today and Steve will have to battle back tomorrow. On one occasion, he commented that he didn't come all the way down here to see me lay up. Great comment that we will remember for years.
You just can't hardly beat 80 degree weather. I'm having second thoughts about coming back.
Those addresses were:
Sherlock Holmes
Cheers
British Prime Minister
White House
Wrigley Field
Archie Bunker
Sue's address in Harry Chapin's Taxi
Sponge Bob Square Pants
First round complete at Bardmoor CC. Beautiful place to play, temps in the 80's and very windy. Steve beat me by 2 strokes on the front nine and I beat him by one on the back, so he leads after the first day by 1 stroke. I feel good to be that close, considering the way I putted today. Amazingly, I hit the first three greens in regulation and walked away with a par on all three. Unfortunately, I couldn't keep it up.
The strangest thing happened on the 3rd tee box. A cart pulled up and in it was Terry Joe Miller. He had read about our tee time in this blog and came over to Bardmoor to say hi. Good to see the old feller again.
Ol'Simmons is tired, sore and a wee bit sunburned, but I feel great.
Scotland Yard.
The White House.
Wrigley Field.
I should probably know more, but I don't.

Take another week; it's raining so hard where you're from tonight it'll be three more weeks before you can get out without waders.
Have loads of fun. I'm sure you'll come home with lots of good stories to write about. Be careful going across those mountains!
Tell your Mom I said Hi!
Glad to hear about Nigel's progress...scary stuff. I hope that the pressure to win at golf doesn't override the enjoyment! Just call out mulligan from time to time....and remember that your favorite nephew isn't going to be there to retrieve your club, should you choose to chuck it at the airport.
Ol Simmons--I for one will miss your wisdom for a week, but hope you truly enjoy yourself in Venice. I however wish Steve all the luck in the world, and hope he kicks your A$$. The way I look at it, you will have to endure many more beatings at the Phil this year, and I just want you to get used to it.
