Why can't McBride coach AND be athletic director?

Ron McBride is now officially Bloomfield's AD. But to take this job, Ron had to give up basketball, which in my opinion speaks to the intelligence of the Bloomfield School Board. Apparently they don't believe a person can do both jobs.

I would like to point out that not only are there several other coaches who do this, but that J.R. Holmes in Bloomington does it and coached his team to a state championship, and Bloomington South has many more sports to manage than Bloomfield. Brent Dalrymple at North Daviess also does it and went to a semistate. Unlike Bloomfield, ND also has football, which adds to the work for the AD. If I may borrow loosely from "A Few Good Men" the only thing I can see that the board accomplished was to weaken a basketball program. I do think it's amazing that Ron will be the fifth AD in the last five years, and they've had three basketball coaches in the last 55 years. It will be interesting to see who they fill their coaching opening with.

I want to congratulate all the Lady Miners softball players and coach Flater on their tournament run. Congrats to Izzy Carpenter for receiving the mental attitude award. Special congrats to assistant coach Troy Church and his daughter Taneal. Troy played baseball for me at Dugger and is a great guy.

Also congrats go to Matt Fougerousse and his Laker baseball team. They came up just short in their bid for another finals appearance but had a great year nonetheless. It is becoming old hat for them to make deep runs in the postseason.

Congrats to Paige Wolfe and her Laker softball team for winning the sectional. This was the first sectional title under the young coach as well.

Continuing a couple of theme's here. Another of my former players, Todd Gambill, I'm sure is proud. His son Drew -- of the aforementioned Lakers -- finished extremely well in the state track finals. In fact, Drew's time in the half mile was faster than I drive it in my car.

Finally, congrats to J.B. Neill on getting the basketball job at WRV. I hope everything works out well there. Oh -- and by the way, he's also going to be the AD!
