I want to take this opportunity to introduce the two newest members of Team Hart. Tobias and Jackson are Brooke and Joey's twin sons who were born Wednesday. Mom, dad, and boys are all doing well. It was very special for Janet to be able to see them. I've already sent an e-mail to coach Painter at Purdue saying they will not be walk-ons.

On the local basketball front, I'm sorry to see Gene Hall step down at WRV. I think he did a good job and brought back some pride, discipline, and work ethic to the program. I'm sure he wasn't popular with some parents, but that's not always a bad thing. I wish him luck in any future endeavors whether coaching or not.

Hats off to coach Ron McBride. I thought he did a great job in winning the sectional at Eastern and represented the area well at the Huntingburg Regional. They were one basket away from winning in the regional.

The officiating I observed in the North Vermillion sectional and the Huntingburg regional were both very good. Unfortunately, the North Daviess sectional had a call that may have cost Barr-Reeve a chance to win. Also Bowman Academy who was in their first year of the IHSAA tourney fell victim to some extremely poor calls in their regional game. If you don't believe me, take a look at it on YouTube.

There are rumors about several area transfers. It will be interesting to see how things shake down, and the resulting effect on future IHSAA rulings.

Also of interest on the horizon is whether or not there will be anymore coaching changes in the area.

On the national front, the NCAA tournament has been a pleasure this year. Probably the biggest improvement is that you can have the sound on without having to hear Billy Packer. I hope everyone has had ample opportunity to watch the tourney because while we haven't seen too many of the popular upsets, there have been some great games. Sometimes your loyalty in the tourney depends on who you've drawn or chosen in your online and office pools. Its amazing how many people become rabid fans of a school, yet cannot name their starting five.

congradulations to all the Harts!

Let me see, how many balls of all sizes can one family deal with. There must be a limit before the Board of Something steps in. You can not split a ball, it is not your ball when you do. How do you buy that many basketballs, baseballs, well Joe does OK on golf balls after he paints over the lines around them, cheap range balls. Must be a happy time for Joey and Joe and Janet, the whole Hart bunch. I am happy for them. What is the middle name of that boy Tobias? Both of them actually, just wanted to know. Health and wealth, and contentment, and congratulations. Hope mom is feeling well, one of my favorite card players.

Tobias 'Cooper' and Jackson Trey' (don't tell me he will not have added pressure while shooting from beyond the arc).

Congrats to Joey and Brooke!

If Bowman Academy is a private school with no school district, I hope they get that kind of officiating every night.

I'm in full agreement about Billy Packer. I was amazed CBS held on to him for as long as they did.

I'm sure all the transfers will be for academic reasons. I agree with Joe about Gene Hall. He is old school and that doesn't work except in Bloomfield, who just happened to win a sectional.

yes im sure academics was the reason for transfer, but im sure after they were turned down at other places for athletics they kept trying other schools.

and im sure coach hall will find someone to finally fit in. hes too good of a coach not to.

My Goodness Joe, you have two more little buddies. It seems the more you have the nicer you get. Can't wait to see Tobias and Jackson. You lost some games as a coach. But, you and Janet are undefeated as Grandparents.

I could never understand how Packer thought Bird was overrated. Some things you "just brush off" some things you do not forget. He never defended his statement with any evidence. He said this while Ind. St. was undefeated and playing for the Championship, and I believe he believed he was correct. I do not see how CBS let him finish that game. Oh well, I would be remiss not to say that Wiglund generally writes good comments and I have figured out his method; he read the directions, and follows the rules. It was like watching a movie watching his Father sit with a pair of Aces and bet the max while someone was calling with a flush draw, he loved Aces, I miss him.

Congrats Joe/Janet, and congrats Brooke, and Joey.

Joe, congrats to you and Janet on the new grandbabies. I worked with Janet at Crane and we've been missing her and wondering how she is doing. We sure would love to hear from her. I never miss reading you blog either! Always interesting.

You mention the call (that the ref made mind you) at the North Daviess Sectional that may have cost Barr Reeve a win. That call though, made history for North Daviess and sent them onto win the Sectional Final, the Regional and eventually a trip to Semi-state. Unforunately, though the road ended in that game. North Daviess played exceptional ball in all of those games and made school history at the same time. So how about a little kudos for North Daviess??

Sorry but I should have acknowledged coach Dalrymple and the Cougars on a great season. They certainly earned kudos from all in the area.

Some of my fondest coaching memories were working against the cougars when coach Dean was there. Those were years when Joey was playing for me.

Joe Hart has better hair than Mel Kiper.

Glad all are well. So they will be getting scholarships at Purdue, right?!! They will be a welcome addition to the wonderful school and sports programs they have to offer.

Boiler Up Joey!!

Coach, I am a little disappointed. I thought we were going with Justin and Jared?

-- Posted by alldayj on Thu, Apr 30, 2009, at 6:48 AM

Well Joe how's the golf game going???? Lets hear your picks for this years WS champs!!! You need something to write about in your next blog.... I know you won't take the low road and talk about all the moves that have went on just in the last two months with high profile players moving to other schools for "academic" reasons. Bet you never thought you could have recruited players to come draw for you and oh yea maybe even put that ball in the hoop since they are there. All Dugger had to do was put it out there that they had this great Art class and Shop class and Dugger would have won a few more games.... I can see it now all these great basketball players.... I mean artist sitting in your class drinking RC's.... LOL Man what teams you could have had... LOL
