Would it be better to practice over the break?

Travis David, local sportswriter, had an article about how the Pizza Hut Classic is a good reason for class basketball. If anything, the "pizza eating contest" -- as one former area AD calls it -- is a great example of why we have class basketball. Since its inception, no 1A Indiana team has won the tourney. I don't think in Travis's glory days, he would liked to have wrestled a 300 lb opponent. A lot of Terre Haute fans like to watch North and South beat up on the smaller schools but what do they really accomplish? I think some of the small schools would be better served staying home practicing and getting better than playing 32 minutes against North or South. Wouldn't North or South be better served playing in a 16 team 4A tournament?

Apparently whoever was in charge of the National Anthem on Saturday must have also been running the hospitality room. There was no anthem and very little to choose from in the hospitality room.

The Greene County Tourney is coming up next week. To some people, the championship game may be the first game when Shakamak takes on North Central. I imagine by now Coach Brett probably wonders what kind of hand he's been dealt. If these guys don't straighten up, they'll cause him to lose his hair. I think that WRV could be a dark horse, but right now, I like North Central's chances -- that is unless the Shakamak kids have learned from their Pizza Hut Classic experience.

And by the way -- my Lions were perfect this year!

Congrats on your Lions!! They did win the first pick in the draft. Good to see your back Joe!

I understand your logic (mostly agree with it), but the coaches and AD's can always pass on this tournament, there are other ones to play in. So far they haven't. It falls on them!

I understand your logic and mostly agree with it. However, it's not a bad idea to play within reason. The coaches and AD's have the opportunity to pass on this tourney and choose not to. There are other places to play. I personally would not want to get rolled by the 4A schools 2 out of 3 days, but the responsibility falls with the coaches and AD. It's too bad for the kids.

I agree that most 1A schools can't compete against most 4A schools. But a lot of 3A schools can. In addition, I know that back when there wasn't a class IHSAA tournament, Shakamak played all the Terre Haute schools in the Regional over a span of a few years and they beat West Vigo and Terre Haute South, only loosing to Terre Haute North in a close game. I don't like the fact that the Pizza Hut Classic is held in Terre Haute every year which favors the Terre Haute schools somewhat. But looking back on Greene County basketball, I think of Bloomfield being the most successful, and one of the reasons is that they played the toughest schedule.

Play as many games as possible. That way fans can have something to complain about in their posts. Don't have practice over breaks, nobody would bother to show up. No glory in practicing or lifting weights.

Joe- it wouldn't hurt if a few more hospitality rooms were empty. May improve your golf swing.

Calling what Joe does to try to advance a golf ball a swing is giving him a heck of compliment.

At Eastern we were once stuck in the Bedford

sectional. It was not much fun. We had a bunch

of 4A schools in that sectional. If you were

in the long bracket you had to defeat 3 big

schools in one week to win the sectional.

Not likely. I don't miss the good ol days.

Coach Hart is right.. Class is the way to go.

In fact ..if Joe had had class in the Woodward

Hale days he would have won the state!

They (Dugger) would have had a good chance in 87 if class existed, but the L&M teams of 84, 85, and the Bloomfield team of 86 was better in those years.
