It's been some time since I've posted anything, but I've noticed some things lately that I'd like to address. The NCAA tourney this year was one of the most exciting with several close games throughout. Stephan Curry was a pleasure to watch during Davidson's run. Probably the only bad thing about the tournament was the fact that you had to watch and listen to Billy Packer for six games. Packer should give up the microphone and become the poster child for Planned Parenthood. Never has one man believed he knows so much but in reality knows so little. I don't believe he's ever won a game as a coach - of course that's becuase he never has coached. A good example of Packer's knowledge (or lack thereof) was when he praised the officials for not calling a technical foul when a Memphis player slammed the ball off the floor (during the Kansas game). Packer's argument was that the call should not have been made because the player was not mad at the official. What does that have to do with slamming the ball? If this had happened during the first two minutes of the game, it would have been called. You just know that if that call would have been made early, Packer would have praised the officials for getting control of the game early. I have a lot of trouble with how officiating changed near the end of the game, but that's another topic.

It looks like Bloomfield is in the process of hiring another AD for the fourth time in three years. They change ADs more often than Sims changes his undergarments. Apparently one of the complaints with "interim" AD Hudson is that officials for next year's volleyball season were not hired in a timely manner. Why are they that worried about volleyball officials when they won't even put volleyball lines on the court?

Driving by the Bloomfield park, I've seen many kids playing basketball. It reminds me of several years ago when those courts were full of players. I always believed that their outdoor program was a key factor in their school's success over the years. Of course when you talk about outdoor courts, one of the most famous was thse one behind Boomie Vaught's house. This was generally a full court 3 on 3 game where Mike Sherrard, Bart Beard, and a host of others honed their skills. I do also remember many very good players at the park who did not play in high school. Some of these guys got better when they got older. A few examples are Jim Gilmore, Roger McIntosh, and Michael Hayes. Michael Hayes, at 5'10", learned to dunk a basketball after he was out of high school - and developed playing in the park. There've been a lot of great players in the Bloomfield park. Some of us can even remember the time Larry Bird played there.

According to Packer, Bird was overrated as a basketball player. Since he made that observation during the NCAA tourney while Indiana State was playing Michigan State, and ISU was undefeated it has been impossible for me to pay any attention to him. He and Isiah Thomas belong in the same cage, under the same rock, with no voice except to speak to one another. Only one fan could have believed that it was not a technical foul when the kid slammed the ball down and it bounced twenty feet in the air and that was the kids Mother. How many years did Bob Knight proclaim that you should not foul when leading by three points at the ending of a game and then on television this season decide that Memphis should have fouled while leading by three with seconds to go in the game? Why did they not foul? It was a no lose situation for Memphis. Knight, and Packer, what a crew, throw in Thomas and to think how much money the three of them earn, well get paid is probably the correct term. All season it appeared the players were much more prepared than the coaches, and IU had the most embarrassing players and coaches. It is still confusing that no one mentioned the kid from Davidson until the end of the year. Everyone heard about Gordon, which one would you want on your team?

I didn't know the periodicity of my undergarment change was public knowledge. I guess I'm going to have to pull the shades or keep an eye out for peeping Joes.

Totally agree about Billy Packer.

My "favorite" of his this year was when a team was running a 3-on-3 break, with the defensive team in good position relative to the offensive, and he said the team with the ball had numbers.

Don't think some of those guys are paid for their analysis ability - they're paid for filling the air time with blah-blah-blah.

Stephan Curry was fun to watch. He has a lot going for him.

I agree about Packer. He's a total buffoon. I enjoyed it a couple years back when Phil Martelli (the coach from St. Joseph's) called out Packer after saying St. Joe's didn't deserve the praise they were getting leading up to the tournament. It's good to hear kids are playing more ball at the park. I remember as a youngster the courts would be full after school with the guys in high school many whom were on the team and many who weren't. I can also remember not that many years ago when 10-15 guys just waiting to get on the court. I think park ball gives kids a toughness that seems to be lacking these days. Floor burns aren't fun, but compared to a few scrapes and bruises from a tumble at the park those floor burns aren't all that bad.

Packer is a tool...Give me Jim Nantz, and Clark Kellogg.

totally agree with the packer comments, you know that he was fighting back the tears when Carolina got beat, since he makes every excuse in the book for them!!!

and the AD situation at Bloomfield....I have only been here for a little over four months now, but Mr. Hudson has been by far the most organized AD that the sports department here has dealt with. As soon as there are any schedule changes or cancellations he is quickly on the phone or sending an email out to let us be aware of the changes. even on spring break when he was on vacation he was on the phone contacting coaches about games over spring break. my hat goes off to Mr. Hudson for the job that he has done as the interim AD!!!

I guess the Bloomfield School Board wants somebody who will work 90 hours per week instead of 85 and will commit to being there 8 days a week. With the smooth tongues on the Board, they may be able to convince a young, recent college grad that there are actually 8 days in a week! Did this stuff happen when Wheezer was superintendent? I think not!

Another election for school board seats in Bloomfield is coming up. I wonder if incumbents will get to keep their jobs, again?

-- Posted by Question? on Thu, Apr 17, 2008, at 3:23 PM

Even if they do elect new people, they will probably be just as bad. It's been that way at Bloomfield for years. Everybody has an agenda and even if they don't they're too scared to say anything.

I don't understand why Rick didn't retain his A.D. position. I think Rick and the taxpayers of Bloomfield need to know where he failed to do his job?

we up here had the old Coalmont gym to teach and play in... I played up till I was 40 bumping and hacking the sophmores and juniors into strong smart players we hoped... but the kids stopped coming,,, we old farts got too old and now the gym is on the auction block... I AM Glad the courts at Bloomfield are full once again.

I think Bloomfield School system needs to quick playing with peoples lives and their jobs.. Mr.Hudson did get the job a year ago folks. But Bloomfield made sure they controlled him on every move. If the other personal wanted the job. They should have resigned from their positions then and wrote on the job.

If Bloomfield fills this position with the inside staff. I think this will show how our school system works! And tax payers it's time for a new school board and let's clean house. If the Bloomfield staff wanted this position, they should have had their ducks in a row and turned in their application last year. Not wait until Mr.Hudson gives up his job to take on this one. And let him work his butt off thinking he has a chance to be full a AD. I bet the next AD isn't labeled interim. But, I guess we need to wait and see who it is first.

I think the tax payers and parents of the kids need to have a say in this. Let have a open meeting to meet the people applying for the job. Since Bloomfield can't figure it out.

Mr.Hudson has done the best he can

while being watched on every move..

Time will tell.
